Does anyone besides yami make these cheaper? $100+ might seem reasonable for some, but I can think of many other parts I'd rather through the money at....

I have heard mixed reviews on the JSS one, however, it is a much cheaper alternative.

I have been dooing a little expairmenting with weather stripping. Check out Slutty's build up thread. He used rubber weather strip. I have gone through bout 4 different types and have had ok luck. I have not paid more than $10 a roll, so still pretty cheap.

$100 may seem like a lot for a piece of rubber. however, when you consider that not only does the OEM one keep water out but it also keeps your hood aligned and from coming off, it works out cheaper in the end. oem all the way as far as hood seals go.

I am currently using Neoprene sponge rubber from Mc master Carr and it works out great. My last JSS hood seal lasted 3 years. FYI

LOL @ Ollie

Damn, that is one more thing to add to my list to get my ski back up after I paint.

1. Starter
2. Bendix
3. Steering Cable
4. Waterbox (If Tricky cannot fix mine)
5. Hood Seal.

No he will not!
IMO, the JSS hood seal is cheap, but a waste of time in the end. I wasted one in a few monthes, granted I am a freestyle rider ALL the time.....no straight line riding here. He claims that it's freestyle tested, I claim :bs2: IF you get an OEM, you won't replace it again for years if you get it glued on properly :headbang: And it can handle anything you can dish out :cool2:

oh no.....here I go again  I'm going to leave this alone now.....

For 35 bucks, the jss hood seal is still working for me(granted its only been a year).

So what if it only lasts 2-3 years, the oem maybe would last 5? I refuse to pay 100 bucks for WEATHERSTRIPPING.

It is obvious by your statement that you have never seen a stock hood gaskedt then. It aint weatherstripping.

it is MOLDED to fit perfectly in the groove + it locates the hood.

Dont let Yamaslut fool ya. Straight-up weather stripping works for him cause his boats end up as a pile of thrashed fibreglass on the beach after only 3 months.

I just pulled my JSS hood seal........... after 3 weeks from the last time I rode, it was still saturated with water........... even my hood hooks are gouged up from the hood shifting from one side to the other..........

JUNK....

But glad everybody that is running theirs likes it.........

Just for clarification..... when you guys say cheap do you mean not a good seal & leaks, tears easily, or doesn't hold the hood in place when jarred?

Yes to all of the above! And in my 10 years of riding, I have never seen anyone wear out a stock hood seal. The only problem they have is ripping when they're not glued down well.

OEM all the way baby :headbang:
