Rivets for footholds.... SS, aluminum, or CS ok?

Ericfox

Do it twice?That's DooDoo
I got a cheap azz rivit gun that came with a bunch of carbon steel rivets. Ok to use those? Or should i really look around for some SS ones... SS is prob. better then aluminum right for a little added strength? maybe does not matter..... I'm going to home depot tomorrow, so i'll look there to see if they have any...

I will be using rivets... not screws...
I will be using epoxy w/filler rather than 5200

I am high right now from inhaling too much goof off..... I just got all the stock turf and rubber rails off my ski... getting ready for wcf footholds that should be in the mail by next week...

Why are you using rivets? Why are you worried about how strong they are? If rivets are what end up being the strength of the footholds you will have major problems. The only reason to put screws/rivets in is to hold them in place so the epoxy or w/e is used to glue them in place can set. Just use screws and remove them after the holds are set then glass over. Although it probably won't hurt anything, there is no reason to leave them in. I would do it exactly the way wdkfan described, especially reinforcing the tray.

just be sure to glass over them. Besides corrosion, you don't want a little leak hole into your foam.
