Riva 701/650 cdi - a mystery box

Well I did some searching a while back about a riva cdi and supposedly they were made by advent, but nobody really said much about them. Anyways, I did some asking around and it turns out they definitely do have a different timing curve than stock, but it's not super clear.
I emailed riva and the guy didn't even know what I was talking about until I sent him a picture and he said it's been discontinued for quite a while, but it's "very much the same as an msd". That's all he could tell me and he didn't know really any specifics. He said contacting advent might not really do any good since the cdi was designed when advent was owned by two brothers.
So does anyone else have some experience with these or know some info about it? I'm mostly interested in making sure it retards up top like an enhancer. Maybe @TheBuzzard has a few of them laying around and could tell us haha.
Just thought it was interesting since there's not much info about them.

I've been running one for awhile in a B1. Works good, I'm sure it will fail at some point, like all CDI's. I cant vouch for the retard timing that you ask about, but lots of WOT on my B1. Crank up the rev limiter and throw it in, have fun

I noticed tad quicker starts and maybe a little more snap, hard to tell. Same as an enhancer imo. I could be wrong, could be stock timing. You do get the adjustable rev limiter.

I doubt it's like a stocker after hearing it was made by the original advent brothers. Are you running high compression as well with it?
I've already got an adjustable Rev limiter on my protec modded stocker. It'd be nice if the riva guy could have said where 8000 rpm is but he had no idea.
Was the enhancer out 10 years ago? Because I think the guy from Riva said it's been out for that long. I wonder if they copied the exact curve? Haha I wanna get a hold of the original advent guys to ask about it lol.

I was running 185 PSI on ported motor and was fine on Texas 93. Moved to AZ and ran 91 for 45min before motor popped from detonation. Not real sure you would notice a difference between pro tec. Throw it in and let us know,

Ohhh okay! I don't do more than a few seconds WOT and I run 4 gals of 93 to 1 gal of 110 race gas just to be safe. I'll letcha guys know. Maybe somebody else will chime in with it being noticeable or not.

I was fine on 93, and on a B1 there are usually longer/more frequent WOT runs than on a SJ. Running the mix idea not a bad idea and I don't think is a waste of money at all.

Oh absolutely! I'm doing everything l can to make this freshly rebuilt from the crank up this season engine last, while still pounding it haha. It only costs 3$ extra per 5 gallons and I get it from the same place I get my premium and it's like 10 minutes from the lake I ride so it's no brainer. Zack from php said it's cheap insurance, and that it definitely is!

I have contacted riva and they say it's more than just an adjustable Rev limiter. But I'd have to contact the advent brothers to figure more out.

Got it in the mail today. The rev limiter setup is different than my modded protec stocker, so it'd be nice to know about where 8,000 rpms are without revving my ski up to max rpms with a tach..

That was an expensive learning curve. Was testing rpms and the starter solenoid slipped and fried all of my stator wiring..and more.

Well that sucks. Why don't ya just set it the way most people (myself included) set their MSD Enhancer, all the way? I have a RIVA box on one of my B1's and that's what I did, no issues.

Because every time your pump unloads and even if you let off, any time your crank over revs even just a little bit it shortens it's life. I'm pretty pissed, start college in two weeks and am broke as a freeken joke and then this happens. Whole engine bay up in smoke, luckily no flames..
