Surfriding Ride Plate

Thanks to all for this section!

This is from personal experience, some of you will surely have opinions that differ.

I've been "somewhat critical" of the D-cut mod in the past. And maybe I still am. But as a guy of considerable girth....lol..
I never had a problem keeping the nose up when I wanted it up, even though I was running a "longer than stock" worx dominator.
But now, after shortening the pole, my girth is a good bit more forward. It makes riding in surf a whole new experience (for the better).
NOW I can see how my plate is not just hurting me in air-tricks, but also carving waves.
It's keeping the nose down and I'm pearling on almost every wave.
I may not D-cut it, but I'm surely cutting that sucker to stock length.

The purpose of this thread is to give an example of how one mod may have an adverse affect on another mod.

i never thought about shortening the vs ride plate length.. im 5 foot 7in and weighing in at 160 soaking wet. with that in mind now im considering leaving my pole stock length for time being since i have a stock length carbon ride plate. personally i dont know the advantages of a carbon plate (other than weight), it was on the ski when i bought it. any thoughts?

winter after next it is gonna be a whole new ball game when i take 3 in's off the back.... that adjustable x metal pole is really looking good now.

I think shortening the pole is one of the best things I ever did. Now I can take advantage of the front foothold, ride a lot more surf stance etc...The ski just seems to handle much better.
I would shorten and adjust whatever else. Because of your weight, you may not have the "nose down" issues that I have.

i get what your saying, i was more so thinking that if i cut the pole down to much (stock pole) then i wouldn't have enough weight in the back to keep the nose up. but i may be over thinking it. im just hesitant to cut this carbon fiber ride plate, i know there not cheap. i might just buy a stock one and d cut it to try it out and see if i like it. this is something ill just have to learn with my own r&d to see what i like.... you defiantly got me thinking about something i may have not taken in consideration till it was to late.

I only cut my pole 2.5". But in combination with a short turn plate and zero degree bars, It's actually approx -5" compared to stock. Some like it much shorter than that, but I love it.. And less fatigue in my back too.

im runnin a d-cut and its super d-cut. i love it but some dont. Gomez runs a flush plate now..... you just gotta try it out with a stocker so its still cheap and if you dont like it its not a big deal. but IMO its d-cut or nothin.

you have to shortin your pole. if you dont you wont be able to center your weight properly.

After I shortened my pole more (-8.5 ish overall) even with my d-cut (2.5" deep x 5.5" wide) I want to got the nose up more now. Just ordered a stock sacrificial plate up today. I'm shortening the hull this winter, but for now I want the nose higher, so I'm going to cut this new plate pretty deep. I'm 5'8" and weigh 155 lbs. Even nose low though, it feels WAY better with the shorter pole. And most tricks are easier now too.

I recently put on a shortened turn plate and straight bars also...much better. So I am at -5 now i think.

I would think the further forward you are in the tray though, the more the nose will go down. Think about it, if you stand on the very back the nose goes up.

You got tubbies??? Try cutting that ride plate off straight across at @- 2.5-3in. befor shorting your hull. Also think it would be better to work with a fiberglass plate that can be added to and re-inforced if neccesary. Cutting a stock plate removes the re-inforcment ribs and they crack easily.

Thanks for the input there. Makes sense about the plate. I'll look around for a fiberglass one. That would be nice to do what I want as far as cuts go. Not sure on tubbies. I'm trying to keep it on a diet lol..
