I think you all get a little carried away with the stuff the nose bit, theres alot more to handling than that one aspect.A ski is no diff than a surfboard, you dont drop in straight down the face of a steep wave and expect not to have a issue of any kind, thats what the right angle of approach is all about, high and low speed cornering, recovery time, balance, weight distribution, sticky or slick on a face, water deflection,so many more important aspects at least to me,that come as far more a challenge than the occasional pearl.those are the things I would be looking for with a test ride

Torr, Idok & others have seen me drop straight into some big east coast surf.... The last big day we had, I waited until the last second & dropped in, never even thought about the nose..... I think thats what sold idok on the Rickter.....

you should have seen my face the first time i did that. and others ive had ride my ski and told them to do it.... there like dude i dont want to skrew your ski up...im like im not even worried about it, nothing is going to go wrong. they do it and they just trip out.... i litereally have made a game out of waiting till the very last second and dropping in....and i never loose.

torr its something your just going to have to experience for yourself. until you do, you wont understand. i think you've really over thought it. the thing just flat out works.

Not torr!!!! no way, impossible

haha j/k T... :)

titrash rode my FS-1 in flat water. He had a few comments about my lack of set-back pump and motor. I am tempted to bastardize me some bed plates to shift my motor back, and make a spacer ring to go between the wear ring and pump shoe to give my FS-1 some FS-2 action.

Aaron

Aron, badblaster makes those spacers and extended drive shafts for setting back the pump 2 inches, you know anyone else doing it?

Scot...its 7k,to me its worth thinking about, especially if its not night and day better than what i already ride.not alot of a/m hulls around here,if i had more time on the diff ones out id prolly already have one, should have rode joshs at wavedaze, but i was worked already from riding my own in pretty big surf.Ill try and get some time on them in tona, hopefully the surf will be manageable for test rides

Aaron thanks again for letting me ride your ski man. im pretty stoked i brought it back running too lol. i think it would only benefit your ski if you did those mods. its deff a fun ski in its own right tho forsure.

one thing ive come to realize in this hull game is its pretty much different strokes for different folks. its all about your style of ridding for what hull works best for you.

How far back is the FR/FS-2 pump?

Masterblaster - When Polaris did the setback pumps on their couches they did it by stacking an additional wear ring in front of the existing one. If I press the midshaft deeper into the bearing then it will stick further back toward the driveshaft. Seems like I could setback the pump the same amount I set back the engine andnot need a special driveshaft.

Aaron

the ones i have seen were 2 inches,if you can slide the mid shaft that far back? dunno if the shaft will woble outside the carrier bearing though. I see the advantage in setting back the pump and hooking up the pump further, what is setting back the motor more doing to help with freeride/freestyle

You have to change drive shafts to set the pump back with the FS1, Chris can hook you up with the shaft.

Pat told me if I added another 2in to my pump it would be a whole new ski. With big power you need more load in the pump.

I hate being wrong...or at least overlooking stuff. I was thinking how easy this would be based on my Polaris experience...then I remembered how the Polaris pumps mount, they don't have ears, the 4 bolts through the pump hold it to the pump shoe. So to do the same thing on a Yamaha means I would have to cut and move the pump mounting ears off my reduction nozzle...possibly moving them as far forward as needing to weld them to the mag pump housing. Hmm, sounds kinda permanent.

Aaron

im not sure why you say you would have to weld to the mag pump housing,I have seen the ears on the reduction nozzle cut and welded forward, and it worked fine, with a 2 inch spacer for the steering cable. I still dont get the bit about moving the motor back for freeride, wouldnt this make it ride even more nose high, especially on a close to empty gas tank at the end of a ride
