Removing the plugs for mixture screws & longer t handles?

So I couldn't find anything when I searched, as far as how to go about this. Read places that they were easy to pull out and they were only 1/8" thick... Well that's not the case.

I figured it was easy enough but being this is my bran new Superjet, I was hesitant. So I thought I'd take pictures and that way the next noob knows what they are doing.

I do need to figure out which T handle screws will work with the hole the screws go into being so deep.

But here you go.

Center punched (optional) I guess

Drill a small pilot hole.

Using a regular pointed screw, not a self tapping.. Self tapping screws will begin to cut the adjustment screw.

I had my carbs in a vise which made the next part easier.. I used bent tip needle nose pliers to leverage them out.

Now I wish I can say they all went that easy.. But I had one that the screw broke and I had to drill it a few more times. Also they are about 1/4" thick.. Keep that in mind when drilling.. I was expecting 1/8" and got nervous as it kept pushing through. Don't wanna go too deep or else you may mess the screws up and have a hard time removing them.

You made that way hard on yourself. Use a drill bit the size of the plug (I want to say a 3/8 bit but don't hold me to that) and drill out the cap. Most of the time once the bit grabs it spins the cap right out. If not just drill all the way through it. Takes about 30 seconds per cap.

Yea I had just read to put a screw in it and they would come right out. Not the case but it worked, most of them took under a min each, but that one, took a couple extra haha.

Any idea on which screws I need?

Good write up. I remived my 2004 in 2011 so it was tough. In retrospec, i believe a slide hammer would have worked good.

So I have these carbs in my garage now; trying to get him sorted on adjuster screws. I noticed that the low speed screws have a much fine thread pitch than the ones on all my 44mm and modefied SBN carbs. The parts break down lists a low speed adjuster for 38mm carbs as BN38/477, and one for 44mm carbs as BN38/166. Is the BN38/477 the correct fine pitch screw for these stock 2014 super jet carbs?
Thanks!

Ok, so a couple pages later it lists "OEM yamaha carb, superjet 2004+", low speed with cross bar is SA-700 and high speed is SA-800. And a foot note says the brass plug must be removed. I assume these are the screws I need? I cut down the body of the carb around the screws already. Will the above mentioned screws work in that case?

Just curious what your end goal is? Are you trying to just move the adjustment screw to the other side of the carb and install T handles while you're at it?

I thought they have direct replacements that you can get? I thought you could just buy a set, pull out the old screws and screw in the new ones?

Some of the more generic screws were available on eBay, so I was hoping that one of them would work since I cut those towers off around the stock screws.
