removal of coupler off the mid shaft

The only way I think of to do it is to have a splined rod to slip on the inside. Maybe a kawi prop tool would work but I think it's too big. Probably the same kind of tool is required though.

do what most morons do and clamp the shaft in a vise(damage the seal area then sell it here) then loosen the coupler.:AR15firing:
yami dealers have a stub spline shaft tool for that.
if you have an old drive shaft you can do the same thing.

so clamp the old drive shaft and then slide the mid shaft onto it and loosen?

its not something crazy like a left hand thread too?

It's regular thread.

I've successfully jammed a prybar into the impeller through the intake grate and removed it while still bolted to the hull.

Probably not the pro-way.

I've been there. I tried the vice method. It didn't work.

I ended up reinstalling it so that I could do my pro-method.

Try heating the coupler and icing the shaft.

That's how I got mine off, except I used wood rather than a pry bar so it wouldn't hurt the impeller or wear ring.

Then slipped the midshaft housing back onto the shaft and used a piece of 2x2 in the coupler - it was 8-feet long for lots of leverage. :- )
