Other Reminder thread re-torque your ADA head

My head can not remember to re-torque the other head...every couple rides it is good to check it because they can loosen up and create wear/havoc...

Do you guys need to re-tighten them on billet motors too ?

What's your thoughts on this ?

Yes, it is important to retorque girdle nuts after initial installation and then occasionally. Every couple rides is a little anal though...

perhaps every couple months...nothing wrong with a quick 1 min check.

Do you guys check them or forget ? thoughts ?

I have not checked mine in several months now...

yes, it's important to re-torque after the first couple rides

How about XS , DASA and Jetworks ADA billet head do they loosen ? Mainly yes it's the ADA girdle acorn nuts that lose proper torque...I know one engine builder that says 38ft/pounds min torque on acorns but they still need re-torqued every few months...

ALLWAYS check your ADA head every now and then! It is very important to avoid carnage like this \/ \/ \/

Studs came loose (head still tigth on the cylinder, so the hole topend shaked around!!!). I was not on the beach this time and my riding buddy lent the ski to another buddy :-( and both did not notice that there is something wrong until the engine stoped precipitous :-( I came back to the beach and found this.......

Thanks for posting pics shows what can happen from loose girdle studs... Looks like a nice 61x/ 84mm top end wasted...

30-35 on acorns? that just seems outrageous!!!

i know kawi manual says 22 but i always go a little extra to 24 and recheck after a new build a few times. also check the cylinder too.
why would you tighten the acorn nuts so much more?

It doesnt seem outrageous . I was told from paul at lpw that the girdles should be 35 ft lbs and the head 21 ft lbs.. You have to remember that its holding your head and cylinder on all in one shot and i never had a problem with heads coming loose been useing the specs for 7 years now never a problem.

I have had serius issues with this in the past. ADA claims they NEVER have this issue (BS). Mostly on the billet cylinders but also on the cast. I swear on high compression motors its like the dayum girdle bolts stretch. The non Girdles do not seem to have a problem at all.
38ft # is pretty high, just make sure your not spinning the girdle bolt at that, stripping will happen in the cases. I torque the bolts into the cyl @ 34 then the top side at 34 as well and check and recheck, forgetting can cause HUGE issues that I do not want to remember LOL.
Not sure if its the vibration in the girdle bolts or if they do actualy stretch or what but it is crazy how often this can happen.

It is not outrageous if you think your torquing 10mm bolts, 32 ft # is standard I beleive for Yami cylinder bolts.
