Real Metal Coatings, revisited

Earlier this year, Derek (waveblaster069) asked about interest in real metal coatings for use in the PWC industry.

For those that don't remember, Luminore is a cold sprayable metal. This revolutionary process allows a proprietary formula of a liquid metal to be applied to a multitude of substrates. Effectively allowing you to have nearly any desired part of your PWC coated in one of several REAL metals.

Below is a video of two skis that have been coated in luminore. The SuperJet is coated in a unique alloy named "xmetal" that has a smoked chrome appearance. The Blaster is coated in a blend of 3 parts aluminum 1 part xmetal. The hull has not yet been polished and has a brushed look.

Keep your ears out for more information on this....very soon we hope to have pricing information for per piece coating. Perfect for Hoods and Handle Poles.

A clear coat is required or oxidation will occour.

The formula can sustain tempurates up to 400 degrees F. We are in the process of coating a pipe chamber to test it's durability in a high temp environment.

I can get exact weight numbers later this week...but a fully coated hood only increased in weight by just over one pound.

Professional painting tools and a training course at the Southern CA facility are required prior to the purchase of any raw materials.

We are working towards offering coating as a service in the very near future. You will be able to send us your pole, hood, or entire hull to be coated in the metal of your choice (pricing will vary by metal).

1 lb for a hood, so I'd guess 6 lbs or so for a hull/hood/pole maybe on the high side. Not bad for an awesome look.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn't sell the product that way. Waveblaster069 actually does IT work for the company, which is why he was able to receive the training and has access to their equipment.

All we'd have to do is lose 6 lbs. from our gut and we'd have a net change of zero! Very nice looking!

Anybody know what it really is? Surely not a "new alloy" as they say. Probably some metal loaded polymer I'd guess.

What ever happened with this stuff? Does it hold up?

Can we see some new pics? I thought I saw an avitar with one.

I break stuff
My hood weighs a little over 5lbs, 6 with the coating. Pics are coming soon. The superjet in the pic is mine, the blaster belongs to Derek.
Although my ski and his are similar in color (x-metal a blend of metals, and aluminum) you can do anything, even real gold. Say it "I like Gold". for a price of course. Copper, brass, bronze, stainless are all doable and look killer. I think my next ski will be brass, looks almost like gold. PIMP!
