Re-splining driveshafts..

Is there anybody who does this besides WDK? Could my local machine shop do this?

I have 3 mint pumps with shafts from waveraiders/waverunner III. If I could have the shafts cut down and re-splined to SJ length, Im sure I could sell them MUCH easier...

I called moser axles a couple of years ago and they said they could do it. I'd bet most axle shops could do it.

it's been a long time. I want to say it was cheaper than replacing the shaft though.

I was calling about blaster shafts since they strip all the time.

The machine shop I use here is pretty big and versatile. They do all kinds of engine rebuilds, custom made parts and tie rods for those massively powered sand rails, etc. I'll have to stop by there and ask them.
Thanks for your reply Demon.

I would think $30 for a few of the same spline up to $100. for a single shaft.

Anybody who cuts gears could do it.

I have a shop I take all my hobbing to here in Ontario.

I hope that helps.

Probably also should be noted that it is possible that the splines are "case hardened", basically meaning if you cut off the splines and re-spline, you may end up with unheat-treated are where the new splines are cut.

Can stripped/damaged splines be repaired (inexpensively)? I just stripped out my mid shaft and severally damaged the splines on the drive shaft. AS is I'm looking at $600 for new stuff.

Driveshaft

I have one pump and midhaft from an SN with splines messed up, I could offer the pump parts for sale or get a new driveshaft and midshaft but is this worth it if you can get a used pump for $ 100-150...the new oem driveshaft is $ 260 + and Midshaft $ 144....
