I used to chew and they only way that I was able to quit was because I substituted sunflower seeds for the chew. It seemed to work. There are still days, especially in the spring/summer when I'm fishing or driving when I want a chew but they are fewer and farther between each time.

Wow, I cant believe so many other people have tried zyban. That ******** works great. Within 1 week, I still smoke on occasion, but damn, I cant believe its not more advertised, it blocks the brains receptors that accept nicotine, hence taking all possible addictive properties away (basically, smoking a nicotine-less cig is what all cigarettes taste are like).

Keep it up dude!
I quit 4 years ago after smoking 2 packs a day 5 years. I "quit" cold turkey with the patch for about 6months. Then in weakness (smoking while drinking) I started up all over again..... Failed my first attempt, and more or less gave up on the thought of ever quitting. UNTIL I got really really sick (pnemonia) and the doctor told me if I smoked with the the lung infection I could die.... I was getting all kinds of breathing treatment and something went off in my head at the hospital. For the first time I realised that smoking was actually killing me!!! I have never been that sick before in my life and it really changed the way I looked at health in general. I have never smoked a cigarette since....been 3 years 4months...smoke free.

I also have to admit, it REALLY helped that NJ and NY banned smoking in bars at the same time I was quitting. If I can do it anyone can. I have no willpower at all (impulse buy, eat, drink and drink and drink) but somehow I did it.

i quit last new year when my boss offered me a 2$hr raise (to quit) after smoking at least 1/2pack day for years. im not like anyone else ive ever heard of, i just stopped. no patch no gum and no withdrawls. at first i just thought of smoking out of habit, i had my routine, like one on the way to and from work. after a couple months it stopped popping up in my head and thats that. smoked maybe 6 grits in the last year 4 months.
i got too much willpower to get addicted.
also knew that if i was going to get into freeride i was going to need all the oxegen my lungs could get. riding dirtbikes was my smoker sport.

ha!

I quit after 16 years of 1 pack a day. February 07 my left lung collapsed. I quit after that. Spent 10 days in the hospital, part of my lung was removed. Have a chest tube put in W/O painkillers. That will make you quit. I did get one month of chantix but never needed it. Still have it in the med box.

Ive been looking for this thread!

Well been on the stuff for 3 weeks. Took it for about a week quit day6-7. Havent had one since been three weeks on pills and 2 weeks smoke free. Hired a kid to help on a job yesterday and were 2 hours in before I even realized he was smoking. He swears hed beeen smoking on and off since we started work but I seriously didnt even realize?!
Most desire Ive noticed has been more something to do than a need for nicotine.

Nothing good comes from smoking It is interesting the next generation does not accept smoking like we did I think all the tv commercial's are doing some good. I am done with it after 22 year's chantix was what I needed.

I quit the cigs more than a year ago. It is the worst to go into a bar and have to smell like it when you leave. Props to anyone who can quit. :Banane09::beerchug: It wasn't easy to quit....i was on and off for years since i was 13. But after going through cancer...you change your perspective. Don't get me wrong i will still toke or smoke a good cigar once in a while if it vacation time. But that ******** slows you down from rippin it in the surf. Lets all put down the cigs and go for a jog. :bananapowerslide:

ha!

At first when I read this I thought, how cool! Then I thought about how pissed I'd be if my boss paid the smoking employees more money to stop taking 15 minute breaks every 45 minutes.

Cool for you though, and I hope you thank him for it now! :fing02:

I did it cold turkey too. Only way to go, I could never have "sort of" broken the habit. It's all or nothing and it is (was for me) more than 50% habit and 50% addiction. The addiction is easy to break. The habit is harder.

Yay to the quitters!:Banane01:

i've been smoke free for 1 1/2 months now thanks to chantix, but I replace a pack of cigarettes a day with a pak of gum. I feel like I'm going to have jaws like a pitbull:bigeyes: but I feel a whole lot better. 26 now, smoking since 7th grade:shocked:

well, little known fact, zyban and chantix are in the antidepressent class. So she might have been a little 'happier' and more forgiving.
