I agree its just that for salt water riding you have to do different maintainence than fresh and most freshwater riders aren't aware of what works. If you are going to do the quick disconnect mod, I do recommend stepping up and paying JSS's fee. I ride 100% salt and have never had any problems with my JSS connections. When ever you have them apart pack them with dielectric grease and you won't have any problems.

I ride 100% salt. I have had my JSS quick connectors for over 2 years now. Not one problem. As stated, every time they are apart, pack them full of dielectric grease and you won't have any problems.

Makes is so much easier when pulling the engine. Even if you only pull the engine once a year, it is worth it.

AMP Superseal Connector kit, male & female parts, crimps and seals.
1.5mm series AMP Superseal connector
(Also including Crimping instructions)

These connectors fulfil all the requirements prescribed by the various automotive and industrial standards.
They are watertight and exceed the requirements prescribed by the IEC 529 and DIN 40050 IP 67 standards regarding waterproofness.

Contacts
  • Material: phosphor bronze, or brass, tin plated.
  • Double contact spring (mainspring and auxiliary anti-overstress spring) ensuring low insertion force, but high contact force
  • Wire size range: 20-16 AWG
  • Current rating: 14 Amp maximum
Wire Seals
  • Material: silicon rubber
  • Seals shapes to make them easy to insert in the cavity
  • The collar in the crimping area provides excellent strain relief on terminals
  • Suitable for wire with insulation diameter ranging from 0.5mm to 1.5mm
Connectors
  • Material:
housing and secondary lock: polyamide 6.6 glass filled, U.L. approved radial seal: silicon rubber
  • Resistant to: ozone, salts (CaCI2-NaCI), gasoline, diesel fuel, brake fluid detergents, anti-freeze coolant, transmission gear lubricant, motor oil
  • Temperature range: -40°C to +125°C
  • Insulation resistance: min. 200 M
  • Dielectric withstanding voltage: 1500 Vrms
  • Watertight capability: conforming to IEC 529 IP 67 standards

Termination
  • Terminals are best crimped with a suitable tool or they can be crimped with pliers and then soldered.
Those Amp connectors are very similar to the weather packs only the terminals are flat instead of a round connection.

I believe Newark electronics carries those Tyco Amp connectors and they are pretty inexpensive but you have to purchase everything individually.

Since we're getting super technical here, why don't you just buy a weather proof Cannon plug. You should be able to get everything needed for around $300.

I guess I'll join the group of "this is how I do it". The thing is quality of the connector vs. quality of installation. I see a few people who post how bad some solutions are when they work for factory pro race teams who's income is/was dependent of results of surviving the enviroment. The JSS bullet connectors work great. If you have problems with them then you've messed up. You can see the connections make positive contact, a little dialectric grease and you should have no problem. The weather pack "GM" connectors also have worked well for me but I test all my connections and make sure there is dia grease all around. As for the trailer hitch connector, I hope thats a joke. But marine connectors have to be installed correctly otherwise you might as well use wire nuts.
