FX-1 Questions about FX-1 for surf.

I'd like to get in the surf this year but I don't feel that my boat is going to survive. So I'm looking for some opinions. What are the top priorities for making an FX-1 surf ready? I know reinforcing will be required, but what specifically?

Pretty stock except for the FPP, JD intake and ride plate. I plan on doing a pump upgrade at some point soon.

FX is pretty surf ready right out of the box. I rode the crap outta mine in the surf for 10 years before making any mods (other than pipe and prop). With it's great hood design, it's also one of the most watertight skis ever........I've never run an electric bilge or scupper....and never will!

Tubbies and pump mods are "Nice to haves".

I would make sure you don't have any hokey wiring 'cause saltwater is not going to let you slide on that like fresh will!

I've noticed that where the pole bracket is, its spider webbing. Not sure if thats just the gel coat but it has me worried, thats why I ask.

well if its spider webbing....you'll have to re-enforce it at some point. .

dangerboy rides a fx1 and runs 1 bilge thats never on cuz there really good with not letting water in but being your first time in the surf, you should install one incase you lose the ski and it sinks bla bla bla. cuz once its sank. its a headache with no bilge.....take it from me.

get a limiting rope so you dont break your pole.

tow loops front and back.

hood straps.

i would quicken up your steering so you can give slashing waves a go.

basically, if you ride kinda easy on it you'll be ok with out re-enforcing. if you go out and try huge nose stabs that dont work out, rolls that land upside down, or smash the nose in the sand from re-entry.......you might have some problems hahaaha

Hmm... my aluminum pole bracket cracked way before the gel coat started cracking. Its only brittle gel coat anyways, not the glass under.

I also only run the stock bilge system, no pump's'. You might need a pump if you flounder a lot. The water needs to stay outside. Keep an eye on the other (more experienced) riders and follow them. The white water needs special attention, don't ever let hit the side...only the bottom.

Tear it up & have fun!

OK, I think just to get me out there I'm going to get some straps and a limiting rope. I have a bilge pump. I think I've turned it on maybe once since owning the ski. I'd still like to do the pump mod before I get out there, but we'll see.

like special FX said, its ready to go in the surf right now. The stock hood is the best hood. Danger boy doesn't have a bilge, I don't have a bilge, Jhall752 has a bilge but thats because he did A BACKFLIP TODAY!:shocked:
