so i removed my old hydroturf on my rails and ordered some hard side molding from blowsion with its own adhesive backing...

apon removing the old hydro turf i noticed the whole rail is drilled about every two inches and rivited front to back on both sides..is this the way they came, or did the previous owner do this??...

if so then can i remove them beacuse there is no way that i can put the new hard molding over the rivits and have it stick...if it is ok to remove them should i fill them in??...

if yes than what is the best to stuff to use..thanks for the help

No it doesn't come like that.

Fairing compound or 404 West Filler/Epoxy mixture. I've been told peanut butter thickness (smooth not crunchy) is ideal..

Sand, wipe with acetone, stick rail on.

the stock molding is held on with screws through the rails but I did not think they were that close. I filled mine in with epoxy filler and sanded, like thegoldenboy said. Then I put the HT on over that. not to sure about the rivits. It would not take that much to drill them out though. and then fill them in and sand.

my 90 square had those same rivets as well. I'm pretty sure they came that way from the factory. It was too consistent. There were screws holding the molding on, but the top and bottom decks were riveted together.

I would leave the rivets. I made a much more explanatory post, but it seems to have disappeared

They are stock from factory like that, no real reason to drill em out and cause yourself extra work.

except i ordered a hard rail molding with its own adhesive backing and it wont lay flat over the rivits..so thats why i was thinking id drill the rivits, put the molding on then drill the molding and put the rivits back in on top of the molding it would be ugly though...damn i wish id just ordered he hydroturf ones

true, no one like's to do more that they have to. Mine did not have the rivits so I did not have a problem. just the screw holes, and they were not as frequently placed.

Well then, go ahead. I see they were only there to hold the pieces together while the glue dried. If the later variants (my newest is a 93 out of all three!) dont have them, then I assume they just held them together longer at the factory or something. If your gonna drill em, I wouldnt reinstall em.

thanks...looks like my rails are gonna have rivits through the molding..pretty ugly

any other suggestions besides ordering some hydroturf?

that makes sense. kind of like the rivits on the stock round nose pole. you gotta love the differances in the same model ski.

yes the stock molding (rubrail) is screws. But I think he was referring to the bare surfaces (no rubrail attached). On some sqaures the hull is riveted together, I was under the impression he was referring to this.

Dunno about that...my girlfriends 1990 is bare around the rubrails(no molding) and nevers een one that was. but no shame in being wrong.

I mean the moldings fits against the rails in that groove with screws. Dont see how they had rivets under them. Also, I've NEVER even heard of a hull with just rivets down the rail in the open and visible.

but like i said....ive been wrong before
