300/440/550 Put my ski back together and now this!!

Well after about 2 months of putting my jet ski back together i put fuel in it and tryed to start it.... i dont have a primer so i was turning the motor over and over to get the fuel into the carby...
The fuel was just about to go into the carby and the battery went flat.. so i put the battery on charge and let it fully charge. After it was charged i went to go hit the start button and it just made a tick sound and didnt turn over..... so i keeped trying and trying and it just made the same sound...

Has this ever happend to anyone before??
could the starter wires be shorting out somwhere or do you think the starter motor might be stuffed?

Any Help is good
Thanks, Ash

The click is the solenoid, so chances are it is still good.

Sounds like you have a starter/bendix issue or possibly a ground cable issue. Time to take the starter and to see what is up.

Short across the two solenoid terminals with a screwdriver before you take the starter off if it spins over then its the solenoid if it does not its the starter.I believe they are easily acessable on this model if ai remember right.

I've had that happen before. Ended up being the starter and I bought a new 1 of ebay for around $100.

IMO, U shouldn't have cranked it to put fuel in the carb, but do it manually. Maybe this is why people replace their chokes with primers...

Yerhh dam.. hopfully its not the starter motor...
Where abouts is the solenoid? Is it inside the electrical box?

Maybye to check it i could just put a temp wire from the battery straight to the starter motor maybe?? Would this work??

Thanks for the help

like stated above also. check your battery cables. kawtipper replaced all the parts in his ebox and was pissed because it still did not do any thing but click. his neg battery cable at the battery terminal was almost broke in half. he moved it and the ski cranked.

good luck

I could have sworn on the older models that you can acess the terminals to the solenoid from the outside of the box, follow the wires from the starter and + side of the battery, see where they end up at.

on the older 440 the solinoid is internal w/ the wires coming in from the rear of the box, go figure.

but yes a jumper wire from the starter to the battery will serve the same purpose as the screwdriver test

You are correct Mad .It looks like the changed it to the external hookups in 1982,the older style was inside,so get your jumper cables out and hook er up.
