300/440/550 Pumice Stone Air Filter

So, I have a cherry JS 550 that I bought off a nice lady ten years ago. It runs again, and I'm wondering if I can just throw its pumice stone air filter away- what does it really do? Anything?

1. Are you refering to the ski in your Avatar? I could be wrong but it has the graphics of a 440

2. The pumice stone Air Filter was suppose to protect against backfires. Unless its brittle and crumbling apart I wouldn't remove it and run nothing. It should work fine as long as the ski hasn't been modified. If it is bad, keep in mind replacement 440/550 Aftermarket filters are reasonably priced

3. Not sure why we needed to know that you bought it from a Lesbian couple, unless you're giving us a heads up that they were lipsticks and they gave you an autographed photo of themselves modeling naked with the ski, which you are planning to post soon.

1. It says 550 in the back, but you're right about the graphics being pretty similar.

2. It seems really brittle, but it isn't crumbling.

that stone filter is much more restrictive than just an open hole. if you take it out, it will throw your air/fuel mixture off and it'll run lean. i've seen it a million times. bone stock ski that runs perfect and the knucklehead owner goes and puts aftermarket flame arrestors on it, thinking it will go faster, and it now runs like crap.

Dude I wasn't offended, I was just wondering what that had to do with anything. Back in the day I did Jet ski repairs on the side and I had a Lesbian client. She was super hot, I always thought it was a big waste.

So, couldn't I just tune the screws to compensate for removing the stone (if I decide to do so), or would I need to rejet the carb?
