Other Pulling apart a seized engine. A few pointers?

Came out of a really clean VXR pro. Was hopeing it was in good shape, but turns out its seized. Looks like it took on water and was not cleared out. Still not sure how it took on the water. Head gasket looks ok, and the ski doesnt look like it sunk.
Anyways I want to rebuild this engine for my SN maybe. Im attempting to remove the cylinders right now and they wont budge. Any tricks to this? I have penetrating fluid and 2 stroke oil soaking right now.

Also I notice at the bottom of they cylinder there appears to be pry points. Im always real worried to mess up the base gasket surfaces doing this, I dont like shoving a screwdriver in there, but I guess thats how its done. right?

I had one like that before. I just tossed it because closer inspection found a cracked water jacket and case. Corrosion is one thing but if it ever froze with water in it, that's a game changer.

I know it's harsh but did you try beating the pistons down one at a time? If you do this with the cylinder still bolted on you can some time get the pistons the free up some with out hurting the gasket surfaces. The piston s rods crank and bore is already junk. Best you can do is possibly save cylinder (gonna have to be bore or maybe re sleeve) and cases.

Ill give banging the pistons with a peice of wood a try. I just wanted to try and save the cases and cylinder. Use the crank for a core if I can. I have no idea if it froze, ski sat for a year like that, so its possible. Im just wondering how it got water in the engine. I guess if I get the parts off I will have to clean up nice and look for cracks.

Throw it in a bucket of diesel fuel and come back in a week.

The 7+ gallons of diesel fuel that you will contaminate in the above process is 30+ dollars closer to the $100 dollars that a clean 61x cylinder sells for with a useable bore. I wouldnt waste that money on this piece...... not saying give up on it. Just wouldnt invest that money on this with no guarantee that any of these parts are usable. By the way 61x cases normally only bring 50 bucks when they are clean.

Yeah good point. Not going to buy fresh diesel to do that. Might be able to get some old diesel I drained from a truck at work. I don't plan on selling this stuff. Would sbt take this as a core? I'm thinking probably not.

They just might take it... I can check for you if your seriously interested. I could give you a ridiculous low price if you wanted one of there remans just not sure thats the best way for you to go......

We built a special tool to take apart stuck motors that we use in the shop, but you can try lots of heat/cool/penetrant cycling to try to break free. Wood is a waste of time (to soft), need to hit it with metal bar to jar it.

I use a fixture and a 65ton electric over hydro press but didnt think most people have that at there disposal. lol

And a few times now its gotten ugly when the press starts to grunt......

I am always amazed how much holding power rusted rings and bores can have.

dont beat the pistons down all you do is wreck the cylinder. remove the bottom case and cut the rods off remove the cylinder and hit the pistons out the top of the cylinder. soaking a motor like that is a waist of time. air hammer on the wrist pin will shoot the pistons right out. if you you have ben beating the pistons down the cylinders are most likey cracked.

thats a 20 min tear down you have there.
