powdercoating the chamber should be pretty cheap. If you want to polish it, use a DA sander with like 180 grit, hit the whole thing. Then get some 360 papaer, then 500, then 800, then 1200....etc....and sand it and keep using finer paper, and it should get nice and shiney. Takes a while, but worth it. O, its all wet sand paper too.

Any truth to the story that sanding the cast metal smooth will cause it to overheat?

It reduces the surface area and changes the color. Shiny materials don't radiate heat very well. Soot black is the best color for radiating heat. With that said, I don't think it'll matter very much in this application.

one thing to consider is that if youre going to get a pipe powdercoated, the company will not want any carbon buildup in the parts as it will taint their cleaner too much. not such a big deal on a new or clean used pipe, but if theres sludge, youve got some cleaning to do first. it doesnt matter if youre getting it polished though.

.....i said taint.

So while my pipe is still new I should probably get it done if I really want it done eventually.

we've painted pipes with car paint and it holds up great- dont bother polishing- i bought a used pipe and chamber that was polished to a mirror and then looked like poop after the first 5 minutes i rode it.............and ever since then

Just wondering what it costs to powdercoat a b-pipe. I don't plan on doing it unless it's relatively cheap. Anyone know approximate costs and where to send it to to have that done?

Also how do you go about polishing the pipe?

Thanks:biggthumpup:

Elbow Grease and some mothers!

Pffft....if it doesn't add HP or handling, I won't spend money on it.

(Anymore)

You know I agree with your thinking and more power should be the first thing you should be putting money towards, but who doesn't like a good looking ski with a good looking engine? I think everyone wants there engine to "bling" a little.

Personally I'll spend a little money to make it look good, but not a lot.

just be careful blasting - cause you can ruin parts if you don't know what you are doing

I would have it done probably by the same place that would powdercoat it, what would I have to look out for?

T-bone

brraap....thats so 2002
i have had pipes ceramic coated and they work and look great, the guy who does it frowns upon powder coating motors and exhaust.
