I took a powder coating class over the weekend and used my ac stand to practice on. This is a two phase coating; silver shimmer base (looks like a pearl) w/ a tranlucent purple top coat. Powder coat is some pretty amazing stuff.

they sell a powdercoating kit at sears.....did they say anything about that?

Well, the company that I was at makes powdercoating equipment so they just laugh at that unit. You can do some parts with a home oven and sears gun but it may not give you the coverage and durability that is synomous with powdercoat.

If you see packets of powder on ebay or at sears don't buy it. The quanity you get is insane for the price you pay. Coating is relativly inexpensive........and it is a PIA to get off so i would reccomend that any parts you want coated have them done using good (consistent) equipment. That is where you get the quality

I have an uncle with a home powdercoating unit, and uses a home oven to bake it. It works absolutely perfect. It is as durable as the stuff I have had done professionally. Not sure how much the kit cost.

If you could get some more info, that would be great. In the meantime, I will see how my fiance feel about me baking jet ski parts in the oven

I really know nothing about it, other than I believe I remember it looking something like this:

Very basic I assume, but my uncle was able to make it give really good results.

Also, I think I remember it smelling kind of bad when he cooked it outside in an old crappy oven. Not sure it is such a good idea to do it inside.

So you can't just rub our noses in it, you now have to start offering this at a ridiculously low price.

DIY kits are nice, but prep is 80% of powdercoating, including sandblasting/cleaning.
Prep is 80% of most fabrication :) Atleast, quality fabrication.

The thing I don't like about PC is that you can't touch it up with spray paint :cool2:

Your AC stand came out blinging :) I'd like a blue one to match`m`k :D
