Ported Big Bore vs standard Bore

Location

Hello guys, I am ready to step up in power so I have been talking with Paul at LPW and I think I am ready to get his Big bore freestyle ported cylinders for my 04 sj along with ADA griddle head (pump gas), 44 carbs (not sure what kind he carries) and whatever intake manifold he will recommend.

what you guys think of this setup for power and reliability (i already have B-pipe mod chamber, Rad flywheel, Vforce II reeds, and 12/17 skat track prop)?

since there is a good amount of money difference between the above and standard bore ported cylinders, how much difference in performance and reliability are we talking about here??

thanks

IMO, 701's really start to come alive around 83mm and the bigger the better!
What bore size are you going to start at?

I'm at 84mm right now on a 61X cylinder and already have some new BB sleeves and I plan on going straight to 86mm(as long as i can come up with the funds to do the machine work this winter)...

I going with 84mm (I think it can go to 86.5)

what would a good dual carb setup with that?

thanks

If you're having someone do the port work for you (i.e., engine builder) he/she should be able to suggest a carb setup that works best with his/her work.

Call Paul. He can advise you on carburetion, ignition, etc. He helped me with jetting advise over the internet never having seen my setup and got it spot on. The bigger bore and f/s porting will be a huge improvement. You will love it. Good choice with LPW.

Ya, on my first LPW engine Paul got the jettting/pop off perfect for a set of OEM dual 44's. I run BlackJack 44's now and Art from Jetworks got them right on too.
Definitely go with what your builder says.. Will save you tons of headaches in the end and you'll get the best performance from what you have.

compression ratio changes at either 83 or 83.5...this is when you get the BB "feel"

The compression ratio changes whenever the bore goes up...not just at 83 or 83.5...just an FYI.

I'm running a LPW ported 61x bored out to 83mm and I know that it hits harder than a standard big bore 760. The motor have been very reliable for me and all I ride is surf.

Still Fat....
you wont be disappointed in Paul's setup or work
i have had a few motors that may shed some light for you
i personally like the 701 for the low end response
i ran a 753cyl from Paul for a season, and i couldn't get it work for me. part of it was my fault for wanting a single carb, we just couldn't get the single carb setup to work in all the ranges properly (singles can be a PITA to get right on larger CC motors). it ran like a mofo mid and top, and i ran some HIGH compression to help it. i still prefered the 701 low end response. I'm not saying the 753 is not a good option, it most certainly is.
i went with a lamey setup and that has given me what i want.

if i had to choose between the two, that would be a tough call to make. either setup can be made to run, and run well. guess it comes down to $$ you want to spend (and of course prop setup etc).

also keep the age ole saying in mind, there is no replacement for displacement...

Paul is awesome to deal with.... before, during, and even more importantly he is/was always there afterwards too.
