Can too much ethenol in the fuel make them look like that?
I believe an engine can't run E85 unless it was designed for it.hmmmmmm that's a good question...
we only get 10% ethenol where i am... but some areas are running E85 right? Not sure what, if any, impact it would have...
Would it be best to perform another plug chop and pull the head with that reading so as not to disturb the piston wash? Would I be better off with a bore light instead of pulling the head? How much can you really see with one of these?
where in TX are you?How do you go about finding out the ethenol percentage? Maybe its clearly marked and I just dont notice. I get my fuel (93 octane) from 7-eleven as I figure they would have a contract with a quility supplier.
pull the head and look at the tops of the pistons.
I would be afraid to run it until I knew it was safe.
why are you trying so hard to avoid pulling the head to look?
to me its easier to pull an O ring head than drive to a gunshop, buy a borescope..
but yeah, whatever works.
best I can tell is that only the Houston area is required to use ethanol (non-MTBE) fuels, and the Dallas area chose to do so.I just hate that head with a passion and I have alot to get done before the weekend, and of course I want to ride this weekend. I will try to get to it tonight. If there is a problem I guess it will be pretty apparent?
Penguin, I am in the hill country near marble falls
