how often do u guys change your plugs??..ive been running the same ones since october?????????

I do my 1st ride of the year with last season's plugs, having fogged the hell out of my motor for the winter. then i change them and ride all season with one set. so i change them once a year.

also, i run AmsOil Dominator race oil, which is red... so my fuel is red. when i pull my plugs they are never red.

I guess that could be some sort of fuel additive, but ive never seen them look like that unless HOT ( but the rest of the plug doesnt look hot)

or rusty, but generally when rusty, there is milky white goo on them too.

If it were mine, Id pull the head and inspect, and I hardly ever tear stuff down unless it blows up.

that just looks wrong to me.

Would it be best to perform another plug chop and pull the head with that reading so as not to disturb the piston wash? Would I be better off with a bore light instead of pulling the head? How much can you really see with one of these?

How do you go about finding out the ethenol percentage? Maybe its clearly marked and I just dont notice. I get my fuel (93 octane) from 7-eleven as I figure they would have a contract with a quility supplier.

I would be afraid to run it until I knew it was safe.

why are you trying so hard to avoid pulling the head to look?

where in TX are you?

if in Harris or any surrounding county, all fuel contains 10% ethanol. If fuel contains any ethanol, there will be a sticker on the pump.

E85 comes out of a nozzle with a yellow handle I believe....just like diesel has a green handle.

I just hate that head with a passion and I have alot to get done before the weekend, and of course I want to ride this weekend. I will try to get to it tonight. If there is a problem I guess it will be pretty apparent?

pull the head and look at the tops of the pistons.

no need to pull the head!
go to a gunshop and get a bore light (fiber optic light)
stick it in a plug hole in a dark garage and you can seet the whole top of the piston
read the wash to see how rich or lean you are
I predict minimal wash, carbon across the whole piston and lean running conditions.

best I can tell is that only the Houston area is required to use ethanol (non-MTBE) fuels, and the Dallas area chose to do so.

so, you should be on regular gas up there.

i dunno about better off, but you can easily see signs of deto on the pistons with the bore light as you stated. That's how I detected my last set of problems actually. Get on it.

I will pull the head to inspect. The only place within 50mi of here that may have a bore light would be WallyWorld and that is not certain. I will pull the head, take some pictures, and report back tomorrow

Plugs look good to me. Go to the airport and run Aviation fuel. (110 octain) That is what I do. Cheaper than race fuel. I sometimes go 50/50 blend. More Brap..:shhh:
