It sounds like everyone has ruled out an electrical problem, but if you want to do one more experiment to see if it could be electrical, throw in new plugs and swap the plug wires. They both always fire together. If the problem moves to the other cylinder, then you can be sure that it is indeed a spark problem (bad wire/boot/etc.). good luck.

yup... its lean. take the carbs apart. if theres crap in the internal filters, replace the external filters.

That would be my guess also...

Change the fuel filter, blow back through your intake tubes with air into the tank to lossen any possible clog, then clean the internal fuel filters.

Your ski was running waaaay too clean for it to be something major.

good luck...

I meant tried it as in have you tried running it. When the front seal went it loaded the flywheel cover with a lot of oil, so you could check it pretty easy. I would hope its not that though. It screwed up the fuel charge so the front cyl was lean (was a single carb motor)

I am by no means a professional mechanic so don't shoot me if I steer you in the wrong direction, but when I pulled a plug one time and it was superclean like that and my boat was running crappy it ended up being a dome sealing problem. The water gets turned into steam in the combustion chamber causing the plug to get "steamed cleaned". I would say check this after you check the carbs, but remember lean is lean wether it is from a bad crank seal or a clogged carb filter. It will run away on the trailer in any case. If it is not running away on the trailer it just may be a head gasket leak.

Change the Coil !!!!!

I will be in Daytona wed evening, I will be helping several people Thur & Fri........ If you get me the boat during that timeframe, I will do my best to help troubleshoot it.
I will have an assortment of parts with me. Your call!
Call me in the shop tomorrow, if you want to move foward on this.

ski ya, Paul

I think I might be with robert on this one. I've blown a head gasket and had similar problems. Ether way, I'm sure Paul can get you running quickly if you don't fix it before hand.

Check your compression. That motor could be blown up, with two way different plugs, but yet again that one plug would be soaked. So Im still betting it's just your carb.

check your plug wires........ pull the boots, take some needle nose pliers and give the wire a slight tug, if some strands come free you got broken wires. with broken wires it can still show spark, crank up and run, but once you put a load on it the spark starts to break down. I have found this to cause all kinds of problems that will have you chasing your tail.... Check the carb screws, make sure they are equally turned out. If all those check out, then look for blown head gaskets or intake gaskets. Get the ski to Daytona, even if you cannot get it there until Friday morning, there plenty of peeps there that would help.

Spark plug boots, snatch those off and put NGK boots on it,I have had that bite me too may times on Yamahas. And yes it will act just like the rev limiter kicking in because its basically the same thing cutting spark.

Well we just finished doing the following to the ski:

-Completely tore down, rebuilt, and cleaned the carbs(All of the diaphrams and parts looked great so we didn't replace anything. A fellow board member (#0) helped me out and he couldn't believe how clean the carbs were.)

-Replaced fuel filter(It was pretty dirty)

-Backflushed all of the fuel lines

-Put new MSD Boots with crimp terminals on the spark plug wires.

We also did a compression test and the compression is perfect in each cylinder.

I've convinced the girlfriend to let me take it out in the morning before we leave for Alabama so I can test it out. We'll see how it goes. If this doesn't fix the problem then I don't know what else to do.:dunno:

I guess I'll just plan on bringing my ski to Daytona anyways. I just dont want to be that guy trying to bum help from everyone because his ski isn't all squared away.

Well I'll let ya'll know in the morning how it went.

Thank you very much for all of the help and suggestions.

Agree don,t forget to try this
Also I changed every elec component in my ski once ,new filters swapped carbs to find out after ripping out the stock shut off it was fine.
My ski would just cut out almost throwing me over the hood.

sweet Dan, hopefully you and Chris found something in the teardown/ rebuild process. Got my fingers crossed!

Well we didn't end up finding anything in the tear down process except for a dirty inline fuel filter.

I took it out this morning and it ran great. I ran it for a a good solid 45 min with no sputters or bogs.:woot: I'm still a little skeptical of it because it took a while for the ski to start acting up the last 2 times I had it out.

Well regardless the ski is going to Daytona and we'll see how it does.:Banane01:

Thanks for all the help guys.

Thanks for the offer Paul:biggthumpup: I think I'm good to go.:fingersx:

At the end of the freeride I would like to pull my flywheel and send it back with you to have it lightened. By any chance will you have the tools with you that I will need to pull th flywheel?

Thanks:biggthumpup:

awesome! good to hear dan. it was nice meeting you the other day.. sorry i couldnt stay long.. find me in daytona and we'll continue our chat.. ;-)

Yeah man it was great meeting you. I wish we could have done some riding while I was down in Ft. Lauderdale, but we'll make up for that in Daytona. You've got to show me how to stick that Barrel Roll.:Banane01:
