Is this normal? And will it cut performance, the boat runs great. I'm running 40/1.

Yes, That can be normal for most carb set-ups for freestyle as you need much richer jetting for throttle response and jabbing from idle for tricks and wave jumping.
On my Team Scream modified dual mikuni 46's with 3 jets, (pilot jet, mid jet and high jet) I got it a lot better with the pipe goo....

Are you saying performance gets better with goo, or better to clean the goo out once in a while? Yearly? I have never cleaned my chamber out.
Seems like the goo might absorb some of the exhaust waves and effect performance, or no?

I was thinking the same. Should we clean out the pipes?

I tied plastic bags over the ends sprayed in 1/2 a can of carb cleaner and threw in a handfull of old bolts and shook the **** out of the pipe. You would not belive the amount of crap that came out. The carb cleaner looked like old motor oil till about the 2nd can of carb cleaner then it just looked like iced tea no matter how many more times I tried cleaning it.
