So, is the only way to do anything with paypal these days to add a bank account? The one time I bought something, I used a credit card and added the funds.

I got payment for something and tried to remove the funds, and the only costs free way to remove money is to add a bank account. I was hoping to just enter my credit/debit information and have the funds moved. I realize it's only a $1.50 to request a check but that can add up.

So I went to the add $$ screen just to see what the option were there, and you can't add $$ by a credit card. You have to add through a bank account.

Am I the only one who thinks having a permantly attached bank account to an online source is unsafe? I have a fair amount of money in my account, and paypal specifically says that it will pull money from your account if you make a transaction and have a decificant paypal balance.

That all just seams so unsafe. Can I just add money with a credit card, and withdraw it to a bank card, WITHOUT having it safe my information to withdraw my money whenever it (or the person who hacks my account) pleases?

I agree with you, this is why I got a separate savings account for paypal only. At the moment I have 14 dollars in it. When I need to withdraw from paypal funds, it puts the money in the 14 dollar account then I just do an electric transfer to my main account. I had a paypal for a few years with no bank account, when I hit the 2000 dollar spending limit I would just make a new account. I got sick of doing that after 2 times.

I've had PayPal for years - from way back in the day when it first started. It's always been attached to my checking account with no problems - and I've bought and sold a decent amount on eBay. I think a lot of people are too paranoid these days.

They did something similar to me a couple of times,I never did get my money back,I no longer use Paypal.

A separate account is the way to go. I have my main account then another account for paypal transactions. Whenever I need to move money in or out of paypal, I just do an online transfer. I keep $3 in the paypal account ...LOL

long story short.... i sold a ski once for 3k... delivered the ski to a kid here in FL (of course, no tracking #'s)... then a few weeks later the kid and his dad refused the charge on their credit card for the ski... paypal went into my bank account and yanked out 3k... just like that...

Yea, I heard the same thing... without tracking numbers you could be screwed. I used to buy/sell a lot on Ebay and dealt with a guy that PayPal froze over $30k (his spending money for his business) that he left in his account. Since then I pay for everything on PayPal using my credit card and leave NO money in there. It is linked to my checking account and always has been... but I just haven't gotten around to setting up a new account. I should do that the next time I am at the bank.

Are you sure an empty account will completely protect you from that sort of thing? I can picture paypal charging the account anyway, then you have a neg balance plus overdraw penalties.

I only sell large items locally now and if you buy a ski from me you better bring cash or the ski stays here till your check clears.I had to repo a waverunner lll one time, luckily he only had the ski ,no trailer. After his check bounced and he would not return or accept my phone calls I went by with a trailer, backed it in at the ramp, walked to his house, hopped on the ski that was sitting in the water with the laynard on it and rode off.

Yeah I remembered you saying something about the 3k PayPal deal once... t never knew what all actually happened.

All in all, I have had only a few complaints with PayPal. What I can tell you to do is open a seperate checking account and link it to your PayPal account. I have never had anyone hack my PayPal or Bank Accounts... yet... hopefully never! Then just transfer money to it from your "main" bank account when you need to buy something.

What you will find is that if you will sell a lot of stuff, you will have to end up upgrading to a Premire PayPal account. I really gripe about this because you get hit with a fee on ALL transactions after that. I used to try and work around this with customers by charging them a handeling fee or make them pay the PayPal fees if the used a credit card. Then eBay made it where you pretty much have to have a premire account when selling. I used to be able to cancel a credit card payment from a buyer then direct them to my other PayPal account, which I could accept the payment at and add on the fee. But eBay won't let you cancel payments anymore when selling. Did I mention eBay owns PayPal?

I have two PayPal accounts, one is a Premire one is a Personal. When I was broke and would need some fast cash, I used to PayPal myself from my credit card. It did take 3-4 business days for the cash to get to my bank account but it was better than a cash advance on the card. PayPal charges 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction under $100,000. So that is better to pay that then the $5 min and like 25% on the credit card cash advance! It just goes onto the credit card as a regular transaction and you get charges your monthly finance charges.

Oh I forgot to mention with a personal account, you can only accept $500 a month in payments. So say you have gotten $499 in payments and someone sends you $2, they won't put the money through until you upgrade to a Premire account. It happened to me and I got sick of dealing with things like this. So now I upgraded to a Premire account and just eat the 2.9% + $0.30 every time I sell something or handle money through them. It just sucks because after eBay rips you on fees, then you get ripped again by PayPal. Then say you under charged on shipping... selling almost seems not worth it!

Does anyone have a PayPal debit card? I guess you can get your PayPal money sent to it. Again you need a Premire account... :( They will also charge you a buck or two to put the money on that card. I read you can get the cash at an ATM then but the ATM will probably charge you a fee. You can't win with eBay and PayPal. I was going to get the PayPal debit card but never did.

it can affect you negatively if you're a seller and a buyer tries to scam/rip you off.

Paypal sucks ass. There are a few very important rules to follow as a seller when using paypal.

1. ALWAYS ship to the address listed in the buyers paypal account. NEVER deviate from that.

2. ALWAYS ship with tracking number and delivery confirmation for purchases over $250. USPS TRACKING DOES NOT COUNT!!! It has to be online trackable in damn near real time.

3. ALWAYS SHIP!!!! This is what got Saki in trouble. Because he did not ship, he didn't have a tracking number -> He automatically lost the Paypal case.

Note that these rules will not guarantee you win a fight. They just ensure you don't lose the fight before it starts.

Also, ALWAYS save all communication with the buyer.

I have sold 2 skis on Ebay, one for 5k, one for 6.5k.
Both were sold in the Seattle area, about 150 miles from my home at the time. I delivered the skis in person.
I made it clear in my auction that there would be $500 due immediately after auction end via Paypal. I would then accept cash only for the full purchase price, in person, and refund the paypal money.

Anyone accepting paypal for large amounts of money is insane, ignorant, or both.

I always try and capture (or at least write down) the license plate as well...

How do you see the persons shipping address on paypal? Can you see it when you send an invoice or only after they pay.
