Painting Factory B-Pipe...

Has anyone out there had any luck with painting a B-Pipe?

- What type of paint and do you use clear coat?

I understand that that paint has to withstand heat very well however, I would like it to hold up well and try to stay pretty too! What about Brake Caliper Paint(Pepboys)???

Have not... I have no clue where to start, that is why I thought I would start a thread!
Any suggestions and please try to be specific.

WOW! I'm impressed!

Now how does it do with salt water spots after you did that. Does it help prevent them in any way?
Because after a year mine looks NOTHING like it did when I first got it!

im going to be painting mine. cant afford to have it pc'ed or ceramic. pc it would be about $50 and ceramic would be about $100.

If you go with painting it, bead blast it then paint with a good primer then header paint.

yeah it really turned it around! my chamber was thrashed.

you just got to stay up on cleaning it. id say yes, it helps keep salt off, its alot easier to clean because its smooth now.

dont get me wrong, when im done riding it has white spots but with some WD-40 it comes right off.

Before and after pics of ceramic coating

2 years late it still looks great. Just a little tiny bit duller than the pic above. I'm still looking for a recent pic.

Cost me $85 total 2 years ago. Color is called stainless steel and it was bead polished after it was coated.

^ That is sexy! Is that a brittle coating? Will it chip if you dent the chamber?

Hasn't chipped yet. Not brittle, very very durable. I haven't purposely dented my chamber though. Like I said it has been over two years since I had it done, and it still looks great. It has been in and out of my boat many many times. Just asked my riding buddies, they'll tell you for a while there I wrenched on that damn ski more than I rode. Luckily I'm going on a long streak of not touching it. Knock on wood. Haha.

I stripped mine with paint stripper (Nitromours) and had it polished - came out with a mirror finish. 2 mins with ali polish every now and then and it looks as good as new! Get lots of questions/comments on it..

Just remember that heat isn't as big of an issue as you may think. Sure high heat paint would be best and both of my head pipes are painted with it. However, I don't think these pipes get much hotter than about 200°F.

How are you keeping it clean though? I polished mine but it gets bad water spots on it.

2 mins with ali polish every now and then and it looks as good as new! I use Autosol but anything else works fine.
