one bad mother trailer

So i bought this trailer in the middle of winter. It started out as a fourplace three seater trailer. its big. I considered turning it into a standup only trailer(12 standups) but i dont think ill ever need to trailer that many at once. so i decided to turn the front into a fourwheeler deck and the back a fourplace standup trailer. here's my trailer build... not much to look at. when i took these pictures I had already tore the bunks off and started taking it apart

next i polished the crappy looking fenders (took a while) and added reinforcement for the front. It needed it bad. I also drilled the holes in the back for the new led lights. They are replacing the big ugly sqaure lights that stick out 4" off the back of the trailer and just beg to be broken. I also unbolted most of there crossmembers (this company must not have a welder cuz the bolted everything) and welded them instead. This gave it a much cleaner look.

I also filled the old bolt holes(there were alot!) with weld and ground them flush. I had bought an aluminum box off my dad to replace the beaten plastic one this trailer came with. the plastic one will work great on my old trailer. The old box just sat ontop of the trailer and this aluminum one was taller. I was affraid it would look real bad so i made a shell for it to sit lower in the trailer. I really wanted a diamond plate deck so i looked everywhere till i found some. (not cheap!) My grandpa has a big shear so i took the sheets up to him and we cut them to size. and i welded them on. I needed to hold the sheets down in the middle of the trailer so i drilled, tapped and countersunk some holes.

then i bolted/welded the mounts for the jetski bunks in place and took a step back. It was judgement time. Should i leave it all aluminum or paint the rails black. Just about everyone that saw it told me "its good enough. Leave it" but i knew that it had more potential. All my toys, and most of everything i own is black. and if it wasnt when i got it, i paint them black. (except the hovercraft. my cousin talked me into painting it blue. damn him) so this trailer was no exception.

The pictures just truly do not do this trailer justice. ill be taking it to petes clinic and the riot ride for sure. Now all i need to do is finish the wiring, carpet and bolt on the bunks, and buy some slick aluminum wheels. by the way, anyone looking to pick up a good set of galvinized wheels? they truly are in good condition.

That trailer is sick man but wait till you have to park in a tight spot.
My extended van and 4 place trailer was over 40 ft long and sucked to park .
I love the diamond plate too :arms:

If you look at most I beam (boat) trailers they almost never weld. There is a reason for this and its all because a heavy aluminum trailer can fracture at the welds if they are not gusseted. Extruded aluminum doesn't like to bend and will always crack at the closest weld...unless its been gusseted.

Nice trailer.

BTW: Did you Mig weld it using a teflon liner? (I see the Millermatic 185)

Yeah like mine. By the time you catch a glimpse of it behind my lifted supercrew f-250 its already beyond the point of correction. I have to leave the tailgate down and hike myself up in the drivers seat just to see it. POS.

That trailer looks sweet. PLenty of room to strap on a few extra standups if need be.

Awesome looking trailer!!!!! What are you going to be putting on the diamond plate platform? Hopefully something heavy to even the weight out since the skis are sitting so far back, almost behind the wheels. Dont want to have a swirly trailer.

no worries there will be plenty of weight toward the front.

Ill have more room for standups than i will need. When i hauled the fourwheelers and the jetskis before i would just set 2x4 platforms i made up under them and trap them down to the flat trailer. but that was alot of lifting on and off the trailer. also we used to just put them in the back of my truck. but i really dont want to be lifting and carrying the everywhere this year so i invested in a real trailer.
