Odyssey battery question

They die even with the spec'd chargers. :biggthumpup:

i was looking at getting one of the ones in the link the Odyssey OMAX-12A-1B. I have two charges that will now be used for the lawn mower and car batteries.
Three batteries one is going on 4 years old and it is in a Sea Doo. :sad6:

the odyssey website even has an article in the FAQ about sea doos killing them.

they are good batteries, in MY opinon, Matt-E, had a really, REALLY crappy experience with them though, and I do respect his opinion.

so, based on the life span of my 5 in use right now, for nearly 2 seasons.. ( I think) I may or may not use them again.

im using the $29 autoparts store battery in my sons ski this season, and have had ZERO problems with it...

There are plenty of other people that have posted bad experiences.

I wonder though, how many complained that actually used the WRONG charger, or complained because they snapped the bolts off, because of warranty service from online dealers?

seriously, lets not start this again, I know the ones you had sucked, no argument there.

but mine have been golden.

if 32vickie can fix his by simply poking some caps back in, and its still working? and its the newest one he has , and its 2 years old? is that good or bad?

I have one battery 4 years old, one 3 and the last one is 2. Zero problems with them even in the XP but then again the XP has the 720 motor and not the 951 with all of the computer crap. The 720 set up does not draw power when the system is off. Don't know what they changed, but i can let the ski sit for a month and hit the starter and she goes. I went through led acid batteries every two years and had to charge them every so often in the JS skis, sucks when you get ready to take out the ski's and have to spend and hour charging them. When i switched the first one and went a year without charging i was sold. so as the lead acid batteries went bad i just replaced them with the PC625 and i have had no trouble. at two years i consider the battery has paid for itself even though the cost more i have more run time on the ski because i don't have to spend hours charging them. plus i always buy the batteries in the early spring before the rush and the price goes up. maybe they are full time workers making the batteries at that time while if you try to buy one now it might be made by a temp employee.

My third Odyssey is crapped out, because someone cross-threaded a nut on the post and consequently spun the post, rendering the battery useless. (This wasn't me, by the way)

User error, I admit that. However, I think I will stick to batteries that are not so damn sensitive to just about everything.
My Jetworks has been holding up great, and so have my Walmart batteries, for that matter.
Odysseys are great batteries to just put into a ski and forget about it. Don't mistreat them, use them upside down, shake them, etc (I.e., don't use in a freestyle ski) and the battery will be good to you.
And God help you if you ever need warranty service. :haha:

that was sort of my point about the $29 battery in my sons ski.

it doesnt NEARLY have the staying power, if you sink the ski and have to pump it out..

but otherwise it functions just as well as the $72 pc625.

so Ill see how long each lasts, and continue to use whatever is cheaper.

although, i personally DO NOT mind paying a bit more for a bettery terminal screw setup, those cheap batteries and the 'floating' nut make me want to shoot someone in the face.

Well we will see how well it works in the surf. Taking it to Corson's inlet this weekend for some surf riding and we will see. I think i will try one of the jetworks next time. You can also get them below the $72 if you go on e-bay in the off season.

I would advise against getting one off Ebay. Getting warranty service will be impossible.

My threads are worn down(working on the ski in the sand) on my negative cable near the middle to bottom of the post. What I did was put a square nut on the bolt all the way down and then the hex nut on top with some dielectric grease and its been great ever since.
