I took the ski with me to work so I could hit the river this afternoon to tune, it rained all morning, I forgot my sandals, left work a little early to go, was still raining when I got there, then I tried to start the ski (which ran just fine on Monday) and it appears my bendix locked up.

No go, went home.

Blah, crappy day.

Sometimes it is best to give in to fate and just not go. I had a day like that last time out. It just was not in the cards.

I guess I failed to mention that it's locked up in the extended position. I could just barely rock the crank back/forth---like .2 degrees---and hear the bendix clunking. The starter wouldn't hardly budge it even with jumping off the car.

I have a spare, I'll have it in tomorrow.

That happend to me yesterday. Except I got there and the lightning storm was amazing plus it started pouring like a SOB. I did feel like taking the chance.

Well, I guess things happen for a reason.

Because my bendix fell apart, I had to pull the gas tank, which happened to be full, so I had to siphon it out, which led me to find my fuel filter was clogged with bugs (see other thread or gallery for that) which had been messing up my jetting and making it seem to run out of gas very early, and during the bendix changeout, I found out my 61x flywheel has a cracked magnet, which is probably why the ski has been a little slow to start recently.

No riding this weekend, but at least I can prevent destroying the stator.

Hell, my bendix went out too in my white boat!! It came apart in the flywheel area but didn't damage the stator. Well, I went upstairs to my parts department and found my box with about 20+ bendixes and made a good one out of 2 bad ones.
All of these bendix taking a crap must be a result of the interplanetory alignment of mars and uranus! WTF!!

I had a stuck bendix also...then after freeing it up the motor was not turning smoothly. And the bendix seemed to be fine, it was just jammed. So I pulled the head and found a nice little piece of the ring stuck in the piston. But the good news is the jugs look fine, just need some new pistons and domes...of course I will inspect the cyls when they come off. But probably just a hone and will be good to go.

The better news is that I got a box from Paul that same day...and got to put in my new motor from him!!! Full report on that later tonight. BRRRAAAAAAPPPPPPPP will have to sufice for now!
