Not a fan of hotrods, sorry

Had this motor built and put less then 10 hours on it. Back em if you want, say you never had a problem but it is what it is. I have probably hyrdrolocked or seen someone hydrolock a motor 50-100 times in the last 3 years. 1-50 actually bends a rod, I will give that much but crack a journal really... No thanks hotrod I will stick with oem next time. I sent it to crank works un aware of the cracked journal fully ready to take my punishment but no thanks when I found out about the journal, so I told them to mail it back and now I have a box full of parts mostly good with less then 10 hours on it.

Story that lead up to the motor issue, I had some water(alot) in the engine compartment so I was idleing waiting for my bildge to catch up and it came to a stop, hit the starter once and it didnt make a full rotation so I took it in pulled the plugs and hit the starter and nothing so I pull the motor apart that night to find water in the bottom and a bent rod. Pulled the crank and sent it off to crank works and this is where I am at now. Got an oem crank in the garage ready to go now that will have to do.

Not really mad about it. I know I screwed up, lesson learned but a cracked journal, I thought it would be tougher then that especially at idle.

Crack Testing

After I performed a Dye Penetrant Test you can see the crack much better. I also performed a PMI and the material is Chrome Molly 4140.
I plan on doing a Brinnel hardness test and a wet magnetic particle inspection on it this week.

SUPERJET-113

GASKETS FOR CHAMP BRAP!
That sucks...

Nice NDT Mick!

IMO, SBT is just as good, if not better as any Hotrods crank from Taiwan.

OEM is the best. My new engine I'm building now has a OEm with like 10 hours on it. Should last a long time.

I just had my Hot Rods crank rebuilt by Art at Jetworks. Art found (and showed me) that my journals were cracked in the exact same place. Art replaced them with OEM. Art said Hot Rods cranks are notorius for cracking right there.

I have a new one that was going in my friends new BB engine. I have never run one but it just looks & feels cheap when compared to OEM. What is the price difference betweeen an OEM & hotrods?

I am not a fan of Loose Rods I mean Hot Rods either had to send a new one back for defective rod bearing clearance and the coupler would not tighten up to the crank ring because it was not recessed/knurled past the threads to allow this...I went with an oem that was perfect.
