It was much louder when I lived in O-Town

No he will not!
Hey thanks Nedra......I love my job!

The sonic booms are my favorite part of landing I think, but it wasn't as loud this time probably due to the high winds. It flew right over where we were watching from, it makes a cool rumble as it is slowing for final approach.

I went to the first launch when I was 10yrs old... I still get goose bumps watching that baby go up... It NEVER gets old for anyone here in this area and I still see people evac the buildings everytime it goes up... Most people just don't realize how big a part of our (central florida) culture the space program is...

I saw the Challenger explode too... I will never forget that day... We went out to watch it when I was in 7th grade... I remember seeing that axplosion and thinking imediately that something really bad happened... We ran inside and watched it on the news the rest of the day... they suspended all classes for the rest of the day too... So sad

heck...Huntsville is the other "Houston" as far as the Space Program...that is where the big space camp is. It is called the "Rocket City". I think Apollo was built there? correct me if I am wrong.

Anyways...even before we moved here it was a big thing to us. Garrett actually lived with a rocket scientist for NASA while he was in college:cheer:

We go outside to watch every launch now....even if we can only see a little puff of smoke:biggthumpup:

I remember when I was a kid I got a toy shuttle with stickers for a bunch of different shuttle names. I liked "Challenger" the best. After I put the sticker on the shuttle my mother told me it was a strange choice. Apparently my expected birth date was the day of the Challenger launch (glad I was early!).

I do envy you all that live there tho. Ive only been lucky enough to see one launch when we were on vacation a long time ago.

When I was in like fourth grade NASA had some program where you could send in questions via e-mail, and the astronauts would actually read and answer the selected question "live" from orbit. I sent in an e-mail asking why most shuttle launches were at night, thus past my bed time so I couldn't even watch on TV. Lucky me someone picked my e-mail. The astronauts answered me and I even got a like 5 second clip of me sitting there at my PC as part of the story on the national news. That was so cool! Definitely something I'll never forget.

I will remember that day forever also. It was a big deal because the female teacher was on there. I think most of the schools in the USA that had TV's were letting the students watch. It was a real shock at that age. I think I was in thrid or fourth grade.

Some of you kids are making me feel old. I remember everyone going to the auditorium to watch the moonwalk when I was in kinder or first grade or thereabouts.
