New SXR's at Waterworld

After over 10 years of 550's, universal upgraded them to new SXR's. Also it looks like they are going to replace the Kawi SS with a seapoo 3d. But they're keeping the old X2's cuz they said it would cost too much $$ to widen the catapult for the jetski/waterskier launch.

The SXR's kinda suck. The second we sub them they starve for air and die really quickly if they go too deep. I've spent a lot of time in the last couple weeks working with the mechanics to get them show worthy. The 550's were freakin submarines. Also the SXR's don't spray nearly as good. You have to spray super flat or else the ski just goes into a turn. With the 550's you could spray almost vertical.

One ski sunk when we were training on them and it bent a rod. The bottom of one of the hulls is trashed from hitting the ramps. Hopefully we get these kinks worked out, cuz I'm really starting to miss the 550's.

I like those paint jobs.
I rode a 550 for the first time last weekend, and I was impressed with how nimble that ski is.

It's kinda a coincidence this thread came up, because me and my buddies were just talking about they still used 550s in the Waterworld show over the weekend.

And EVERY SINGLE stocker SXR (and even most modded ones) I've seen has the same exact issue with choking out when subbing. Got a buddy that just got a brand new one and was working on simple turn subs and choked out his engine after very minimal time underwater (like a second) and couldn't get the thing started for another 20 minutes.

There is a thread on how to fix this.... first you need to do the hood mod by blocking off the front hole... Next, you need to grind off some of the hood in the back by the air intakes. This has worked for my ski.

Everythings stock, they just put 2 bilge pumps in them.
I first had them block off the front air intake, but it still died, then I ditched the tubes inside the hood because when the ski got water in the hull, the tubes were underwater, so even after the ski surfaced it couldn't get air. I'm trying to get them to cut out another air intake on the back of the hood, but I don't have much say. They're thinking about switching to a single carb. The skis just don't drive underwater like the 550's, which you could actually control and steer while underwater,

So those 550s where stock huh? no holds or lifters in them? I'm still having the damnedest time trying to get consistent subs out of mine w/o holds... Sometimes I luck out and it will cetch, sometimes it skims the top of the water and I go in a tunnel of water.

Any good tips? I can't help it. Leanding forward helps a lot, but sometimes I can't tuck back behind the pole and get a face full of water... I got holds coming soon, but it would be nice to get it down before I put them in.

do that but only sometimes can I get the nose down far enough, most of the time my feet wont grip the sides of the tray well enough, so I end up pushing a lot more.... Thats why I skim more than dive down I believe.

Why would they get SXRs? Aren't they heavy?
I want one. But all i do is jump waves and goof off. I wouldn't think it was a first pic among freestyle riders.
I've been wrong before.

i am suprised they dont have superjets in there
They must have a deal with kawasaki

Kawasaki is WAY more generous with SXR's than Yamaha will ever be with SJ's. Most of the amusement parks get some smokin' deals on them. The parks that are using SJ's are only doing so because they know the performers can do more on them, so it's worth the extra money.

Sad.

Yamaha has NOTHING invested in the superjets anymore, but they don't want to cut anyone a deal.
