i have decided that i want to purchase a superjet towards the end of spring/beg of summer (im savin the $$ now ) i can either buy a leftover from the dealership or a used one here in town or up north towards the great lakes....

for cash reasons it would be smarter to buy a used one, but would it be better to start from new/stock instead of buying used and abused? i guess it depends on what you find..........
are the certain years to look for in this model?
this is the first time buying a stand up model so any help would be great 8)
thanks:biggthumpup:

well depends on how much your willing to pay i guess. personally i would of gone with a 1996+ superjet used. but for money reasons i choose a 1995- squarenose superjet.

again, i would go for a used superjet. for the price of a new one you can get a pretty decent set up ski for freestyle already. we're talking modified motors and hulls. sweet deal in my opinion.

both the newer superjets and older squarenosed kind have the same bottom hull. the only difference is the top deck of the 1996+ having rounded noses. these also have a bigger variety in aftermarket hull parts.

some will argue they handle different, but the only reason i see is the lower pivot point of the squarenose. they feel the same to me besides that.

i say save your money and watch out for a good used one. there are plenty of people on this website selling superjets at great prices and well taken care of.

Go used...

96 thru 2006 are all the same. If you are getting an earlier one (square) make sure it has a 701 motor.

Find one with at least a ride plate, intake grate, bars, some kind of bilge system and hopefully a B-pipe and footholds. These mods are almost essential and will make your learning curve much shorter.

A good used one will be 3500 to 5000 depending on the year.
A new one will run over 7500 with tax and the mods listed above.

if you can afford new go with that. its always nice to know the history of your boat.

thats always true...

im leaning towards used right now because of the money issue, i assume that when summer gets underway there will be alot more superjet adds in the classifieds.
I just see some of these pictures and think why didnt i get into standups earlier. :banghead:

if money isn't an issue, buy new and mod it yourself. it's always much better to own it from new and know what goes into it. if you need to save money, buy used.

if i bought a pre 96 sj hull, would all the engine parts be the same as an after 96 sj? what would be different?

i am thinking just building it scratch instead of buying a used one, that way i'll get to know the machine better.........:Banane01:

There are some engine differences.

1994-1995 Superjets had the 61x/61x engine. That's 61x cases (single carb) and 61x cylinder

1996+ Superjets had the 62T/61x engine - 62T cases (dual carbs) and 61x cylinder.
You can't go wrong either way.

Other than the top case half and the intake manifold, everything is interchangeable.

werd, I buy cars used also...

hell, all my home electronics I buy open box from best buy. I'm a second hand mofo.

bought a vacuum open box, worked perfect for years..

never bought a used car though, then again..ive only bought 1 car myself....

dont think i'd buy a sports car used, for the "who's been beatin' on it factor" but any "normal" i dont think would be a prob..

i'm more concerned on how the sj has been "beatin" than a sports car. if i could have afforded to buy a new sj and all the mods, i def would have. i bought my sxr new, but i also didn't plan on doing too many mods to it.

good news ( i suppose )

know someone who owns a 91 550 and he are giving it to me FREE. thats pretty awesome considering i dont have to buy a used ski, but really wanted a SJ. i'll prolly fix it up (it's a POS) and do some mods just to get into the sport.

might have to do some fiberglass work tho :(

anyway,
thanks everyone for all your help....:Banane01:
