Hey there all you stand-up junkies,
New here and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Nick from Mile-High Denver.
Fairly new to jet-skis, so don't laugh too much if I seem stupid about these crazy 2-strokes. Actually am fairly smart about working on it so far. I have many years of building/working on dirt bikes 2 and 4 strokes, and am a A-class MX racer, but these skis are a totally different animal I've found. When I married my wife she had this bad a$$ Yamaha, she used to race, and I managed to throw a rod through the cases and pretty much destroyed the motor. So, I ordered a OEM shortblock and put it in with all the aftermarket stuff that was already there and it ran pretty good for 1 year. Then last year it wouldn't start the one time we took it to the lake, so it sat until now. Recently replaced the MSD CDI and Coil, and it fired right up and ran well at the lake last weekend. Now I'm all stoked to get out and get good on it. I do have some jetting issues, but I'll post them up on the SUPERJET forum later.
Here are some pics of it, I did the paint and flames on it last year while the motor was out. Had to paint it red to match our Honda CRF's.

looks like a Factory dry pipe

welcome! it looks like a factory dry to me too
Thanks guys, This site rocks! Lots of good Info and members here. I did confirm with Factory Pipe that indeed it is one of theirs. This pipe absolutely rips. A little on the loud side but seems like a good solid product. I also got with Pro-Design and they are making me a set of domes so I can put my Cool-Head onto my new motor. They got out of the watercraft market and only make parts custom order now. It's a nice full girdled head, so I hate to let it sit on my shelf. Apparently the cause of blowing up the old motor was probably due to the high compression domes that were on it and the fact I didn't know it needed 110 octane race gas, OOPS. Now they are hooking me up with pump gas domes, so I should be good. I'll post some pics of it next week. Now that I have the exhaust all figured out I could use some help IDing what kind of carbs are on it. I just rebuilt them, using the Mikuni Super BN 38/44 kit, I'm pretty sure they are 44's but they don't look just like the diagrams in the instructions. I think they are some kind of modified race version, but where did they come from?

Welcome to the site and nice starter ski.

Carbs look like Buckshot's to me. Anyone else? You'd have to pop one off and measure it to be sure of the size but I'd guess 46's...maybe 44's.

Buckshot 44's more than likely, Andrew Buck made lots of these carbs for racing.
When they were used, Andrew only made the 46's on a custom order basis and mostly for the Seadoo racers with the then new 785/800 Power Valve engine in the XP runabout. Most of those 46 carbs were spigot mounted...

Thanks for the clarification Chucky, mine were 46's and you are exactly right they were set up for a seadoo and spigot mount. I thought the color of the body was an indication as well? All the 44's I have had were black and the 46's were the silver color. Likely the difference was black is for OEM yamaha and silver is true mikuni.

Thanks for the ID. They sure look like Buckshots, but I can't find any links to Buckshot other than some pretty bad dune buggies, I think I need one of those. I'm searching for some jetting specs to go with these carbs. After rebuilding them I found 130 main, 120 slow. and 2.3 needle/seat. It runs really fat on the slow speed and think I just need to lean that circuit, but after reading the tunning guide seems like there may be a little more to it? I need to get a blow off pump I guess.

I got the domes yesterday and installed the Coolhead today. Pistons looked great and it all went together flawlessly. Started up first hit of the button. Can't wait to get her out to the lake and see what the higher compression does for it.
