Super Jet New Engine Won't Start - With Video

Got my wife's ski together - took forever to start in the garage (stumbling like the video), finally fired up but had no power. Put it in the water, ran for a minute, then died and now is back to not firing up.

Plugs are new BR8ES, gapped at .024. Coil is new (JSS), stator was just rebuilt (jss), battery is new, start switch wiring is new, MSD enhancer worked when I pulled it from my 97. Starter, bendix, flywheel and engine are all new.

Any ideas?

If it wasn't for the starting and running for the first minute I'd say swap the two white wires to the Enhancer from the start stop and the coil? If it sparks when you let off the start button then definately swap the two wires.

Got the engine from Brian @ Thrust. Called him, let him listen - he thinks timing, like the key got broken or pushed loose. Pulled the cover, it looks ok, but my flywheel puller is MIA...

Bendix teeth are a little scarred but I've been cranking the hell out of it for some time now.

I'm wondering if it's fuel...

I had an Octane last year with a tank of old fuel that would do something similar. I dropped the primer line into a bottle of fresh fuel and it fired right up.

when i first fired mine up it smoked something fierce and I thought something was wrong. I had to prime it quite a bit to offset all the oil in the cases from assembly. My plugs foulded pretty quick to. Once i had it running for a minute or two it cleared right up.

it takes fuel, spark, compression, and timing to make a motor run. cross one at a time off of the list. Timing is always the last one I check but my motors are pretty stock.

Lay the spark plugs on the head and turn it over so you can see if the spark is strong or not. It's just a quick test but my guess is timing though.

Make sure there is fuel getting in the carbs. It looks like you have a primer.

Check for spark like Waternut said.

Check compression.

Then worry about timing and a sheared woodruff key.

Found my flywheel puller. It was the woodruff key - it must have moved as I was tightening the new TBM flywheel down. I saw another thread started today about a new TBM 701 charging flywheel and the key being too tight - it looks like that's what happened.

Stator looks like it needs to go back to JSS, flywheel is a paperweight. :(

looks we found the puller , will give tbm a call on monday
from the sounds they will be getting a few calls on monday strange i have installed one of these on every engine in the past 3 years no issues so there quality is good just must have had an error
i had that with another vendor this year as well and they swore it was machined to the same program as always
turns out they had to recall 200 plus parts

Yeah, I'm just hoping the damage was limited to the stator. Even that sucks - you saw how pretty it was when you built the motor. :)
