I cut my pole down 3" last winter and decided I wanted to go more last week. I drilled and tapped new holes in the stock steering plate for Xmetal bars and its about 4.5" shorter than the old setup with UMI 4*. It seemed way to short at first but after riding it I really like it. I still need to cut down the plate. Anybody have any ideas on a new pole pad?(the throttle cable now goes right over the hole for for the pad mount.

I was thinking of doing this same thing. What's the best way to modify the stock turnplate to get more steering throw?

yeah, good poop! i cut my pole 5 inches and threw the x-metal plate and bars on there. i was a little nervous at first cut that it might be too short but Pat at x-metal was so confident that i would dig it that he offered to give me a new stock pole if i didn't like it. It rocks dude!

are you gonna cut the excess off?
Yeah Im going to cut the rest off, just wanted to test it before committing.

we are going to make an aluminum adapter that puts the steering connection out a little more Ill post pics of that when its done. Also putting a new hole in your steering nozzle is super easy and cost nothing for a little more throw.

i trimmed a u in mine to clear the cable... worked great and i was -8.5

In the plastic chin pad? My throttle comes all the way over the bolt that holds the pad on so to leave it with the stock connection I would only be able to use one bolt.

I'm going shorter as well. Right now I am at a -2 pole, -1 bracket, -2.5 steering, for -5.5
I'll be going to -8.5 via a -4 Pole and -2 bracket.

stupid question but couldnt you take the slack out of the cable on the bottom inside the hull??

looks good I might try this set up. Still need to cut my pole down.

Right where the cable comes out of my Xmetal throttle it sits right over the mounting hole for the pad (when at full lock) there is no way I could have the pad in the stock location without only using one fastener and cutting a huge void in it.

Im at about -9" or -10" overall.... It is great for flips, roles, 360's, stabs, surf riding.... a matter of fact the only time its sucks is if I just want to cruise around ( puts my weight way forward)..... my footholds are a little more forward then most... Im 6' 175lbs. The nose of my boat is super light btw.

I just did this to my SN yesterday, however I made the bars out of solid aluminum stock.

How much did you pay for your bars? If anyone is interested I have enough metal for 3 more sets and can prep them for you at $15 each..... probably a lot cheaper than whatever you payed.... and stronger too being solid stock....

well... try it on mine when at sebby... If your goin.. Theres practically no weight difference, but they feel a lot more solid than my last set of bars, which were UMI 4*'s

I almost went with solid stock stainless steel... but who am I kiddin....

nm... just saw your in MN..
