Need some opinions on switching carbs

it opens up the ex. port wider. when its closed you get lowend power, and when the engine reaches a certain rpm, the valve opens. giving it high speed power too.

They vary exhaust port timing on the run.

With the valve down, the power is good for low RPM. Then the valve opens, making for better power up higher in the RPMs.

I always considered it a lot like Honda's VTEC for 2 strokes... Don't know if that helps any but might make it clear to someone.

You could always send the 38's you have out to Art at Jetworks and let him mod them for you. I'd probably go ahead and find a nice used set of 44's though.

Your cylinder needs to be cut to make good power. After that make sure the pump is not overloading the engine and you will need to raise the rev limit a little. Dont bother with carbs yet, at least not until you have learned how to tune your stock ones. Bigger carbs will wake up the pipe but wont make much more power.
