need some cost effective ideas

so i am having trouble finding a replacement throttle shaft for 1 of the 40mm mikuni "I" body carbs on my 750 sxi pro. The answer i have been getting is i might need to get a whole new carb.

kaw 750 sxi pro, FP limited pipe, v force 3 reeds, MSD, skat trak swirl.

so should i spend the $$ to replace the one 40mm stock carb or is it time to get a set of 44's or maybe go to a larger size single like a 46?

any suggestions or ideas are appreciated , i jus dont wanna end my riding season early

thanks

Are you sure it's the shaft you need or is it just a bushing kit? You can get bushing kits for Mikuni carbs at any atv/pwc repair shop. They should have a listing in one of their parts supplier books for those things somewhere.

ya i am sure the shaft is cracked right on 1 of the screws that hold the butterfly i can see the butterfly has been moving the screw is mushroomed so its not supposed to back all the way out but it was loose and i cant afford to have a screw goin through my engine

What about talking to a machine shop and see if they can make you a new shaft. For something so small, if they're willing to do it they shouldn't ask a lot, at least not more than half of a used carb would cost if you really like the carb set-up you have right now.

i actually have a buddy who works in a machine shop said he would make 1 for me if all else fails, as for the setup i got its pretty good but i was still in the process of getting it dialed in.

kawi 750 sxi pro , FP limited pipe, MSD, v force 3 reeds, skat swirl.

i have heard the stock 40 mm mikuni's work well wen dialed in right but i havnt got it quite there.

i was thinkin a single larger carb would be easier to dial in, but i got a small budget so the machine shop might be my best bet

I probably have a few off of dead Seadoo carbs ,that is if the shaft is the same length, measure the shaft length and let me know,if so you can have one for the price of shipping, you can usually grind off the protruding threads of the screws with a carbide bit and remove the screws easily.

thanks guys i am gonna get my carbs off and measure the shaft see if i can get one made. been callin around for a replacement, blowsion said they were gonna get back to me but nothing yet, i'll try jetski solutions today wen i get a chance.

i bet he'd have 150 bucks into it.

I wouldn't think that much. Most machine shops charge around 50/hr and it's only a piece of 3/8 303 or 316 stainless rod that they have to mill a flat into and drill and tap a few holes. I can't see much more than 65 bucks and if he knows anyone they might give him a break for such a small part anyway.
