need some advice on starter issues

it is only clicking at the starter relay when i hit the start button.

did seem a little weak when starting before ( i thought my battery was going bad)

heres what i have checked:

-switched out with a good battery
-cleaned battery cable ends real good and tightened them down good
-pulled e-box and tried bypassing the solenoid with a screwdriver
-put jumper cables from neg. battery terminal to a clean bolt head on engine in case neg cable was bad somewhere.
-tried hitting the starter while pressing start button (not sure i was making good contact with starter)

just want to make sure i have exhausted all options before pulling exhaust / motor

any ideas???

-oh also disconnected black/white plug for the start stop button

this is on a wb 2 which is why i wasn't able to get a good whack on the starter

big ass exhaust is in the way

silly question but did you try pulling plugs and turning engine over by hand at the coupler?

yeah its free. and all the starting attempts were done with the plugs out for least resistance.

have you tried applying12vdc directly to the positive starter post?

man my starter went bad too!!!!

but mines from a 1990 so i think it was just it's time

I just had to put a new one in too.

I got by last weekend by pulling the starter and spinning it by hand, then applying 12v to run it on and off in bursts out of the ski. after spinning for a minute or two I did 10 successful start simulation tests so put it back in the ski. it worked fine on Sat but was dead again after the ski sat for 2 days.

I wouldn't ride surf on a shady starter though.

try unplugging the black and white cables at the plug inside the hull (the stop switch from the starter switch control) and give it a go.. if the problem persists then at least you know its not your buttons.. (FYI you won't be able to kill the ski so have another means ready , primer, hands over carbs etc.. if not does sound like a starter issue..

yeah i tried the black/white wire plug.

i guess if no one has any last minute suggestions i am going to pull the exhaust.

man i hate the idea of that. just did it a couple weeks ago and hoped to never do it again.:banghead:

figured it out.

the cable from the starter post to the starter solenoid was corroded and finally gave up in a fiery blaze.
