Well, I've had my Squarenose since just August, after just 1.5 tanks, busted my handle pole, so not much riding. It performed ok, but I want more before next summer.

Here's what I have: 92 Superjet, 650 with 61x cases (previous owner changed them), Pro-tec head and girdle with 170psi, 38mm blackjack carb, factory pipe waterbox, and Scat-trac prop. I bought the ski as is, so I don't know what pitch the prop is (is it stamped or anything?). The exhaust is stock (except waterbox).

So, whats the best way to get some power? I ride only flatwater and don't care about top speed, give me punch.

A freestyle cone is a given. Where else should I put my money? Build 701, B pipe, what? I'd only have money for one big thing, or maybe some smaller things. Help me out.

OK, first of all, if you have a 38mm carb, you are way small on the carb side, look and see if it has 3 or 4 bolts for the flame arrestor, if 4 then you have a 44......... Your best bet is to try and find some 701 61x cylinders........ I saw on ebay some punched out 650 cylinders that are ported, may be worth a look. and a pipe.......... you have the makings of a good ski to start with.....

get a low pitched impeller, check the discussion about the skat swirl rocks, and get any aftermarket pipe on there. B pipe may be a lil high in price. Besides that get a scoop grate to help load the pump.

I agree with BK, get yourself a 61x case and a sbn 44 carb if you don't already have one (you proably do). then, add a pipe (factory "B" pipe prefered) and a low end prop and that will rip.

If you have 61X cases, you probably have a 701 bore or 61x cylender. Regardless, make sure you have a 44mm carb and get a pipe on it. If you cannot offord the b-pipe get the old style Protec that runs on stock exhaust mnfld for time being. I have a 44mm carb set up in stuff for sale if you need it, but my guess is you already have a 44 on it. This carb is jetted for a pipe and comes w/ adaptor and filter CHEAP. Put a wanted post up for a pipe. The props are stamped but usually have to remove wear ring to see it as it is on stator vien side of prop. A 9/17 skat prop would be a good start on this boat, I would not spend $200 for a swirl on this set up as the 9/17 will do fine until you gain more HP (IMO). I have a 9/17 I will sell you cheap if you want to try it. If it is not what you want send it back and I will send your money back but you pay frt obviously. PM me if interested. Oh same deal on carb if you want to try it.

Its getting harder and harder to build an SJ on a budget especially around here. It gets really frusterating trying to buy 'good' deals, you have to be so fast and watch the classifieds 24/7!!! Or somebody WILL snake the parts, the worst part is all the cheap parts and good parts you can use, will usually get bought up by people who already have at least one nice/built up ski already.
Sorry to rant, its been driving me crazy lately!

On topic, that impeller that Sjetrider has (9-17 skat) should work great with your setup, I am running an 8-16 skat on my '06 and it hits hard and pulls great, but as soon as my pipe and head go in I will most likely be in the market for a little more prop. Im about at the same point as you and before I really start to blow a bunch of money on motor mods there is a TON of handling and reliability mods to do first like hood straps, pole spring, pole limiting rope, bars, bilge(s), footholds and turf....the list is long and will only get longer. Good luck.

To tell you the truth, my budget would be probably a grand throughout the winter. The wife wasn't too happy about the sjet purchase in the first place since I have a "perfectly good" JS440 (that can't even pull my 210lb ass out of the water).

Since I broke my stock handle pole, I now have a roundnose aluminum one that is going on. I also have some 24/7 footholds that will be going in this winter too. It will be getting hood straps and limit rope too.

It does have some sort of scooper grate on it, and a ride plate that used to be pink, but now is black.

I was wondering about the carb too, so I took my calipers and measured it, it's 38mm.

sjetrider I'll pm you. Got to go to work now.

Thanks,
Steve

FKN Parts Whores!!! For Real!

I know right, its driving the prices up on everything. Of course as you are reading this saki you probably have your feet propped up on a bin of impellers, b-pipes and girdled heads with your computer desk made out of a wammerhull....

Is a protec pipe decent? I have so far picked up a westcoast head (o-ring w/ removable domes) and girdle kit for $125 and soon the pipe for $100 but it seems impellers, intake grates, and until yesterday, pipes have been eluding me.

are you talking about the mach 1 pipe? if so that one is supposed to be a good one.

if you are deperate and cheap you can pick up a used blaster prop as an upgrade over the SJ stocker.

Im not sure what pipe it is he says its an F-series? I have a skat 8-16 in my ski now and it works great for my setup, I just think after a head and pipe it will not be enough for my setup and will cavitate or hit the rev limiter.

I might take Paul (JR.) up on his 61x cylinder offer and go with a 701. I need to make sure that I do infact have 61x cases, previous owner says so, but I sure would be crappy to take it all apart and find out otherwise. Where are they marked? Cast into the intake plate is the numbers 61x and on the stamp tag it is stamped with (something like) J700I (I don't recall exactly what it said, but the 700 part I know is correct). Does the intake from a 61x fit onto a 6m6 case? Or is there any other way to make sure before I commit to a 701 project?

I believe it's marked between the exaust ports on the outside of the engine. It's hard as hell if not imposible to read it with the exhaust bolted on.
