I took it out today for a ride and i shut it off to rest then tried turning it back on. now all i hear is a click noise when I press the start button and doesn't start up. any ideas?

how much does a new solenoid usually cost?
The motor doesn't turn over and it just makes one click noise and nothing else. Don't know too much about skis but which part should be looked at?

battery's got good voltage
Jump the solenoid with a screw driver. If it starts up it could be the solenoid. If it does nothing you have a bad connection or bad battery. If it just sparks it could be the starter, bendix, froze engine, etc. Do the test and see what happens.

or it could even be a bad start switch, that's what happened on mine.

i think the start switch is working fine. whenever i press it, somewhere around the electric box, starter area it clicks.
the two posts on the electric box with thick red cables on them. These are connected to the solenoid. The solenoid is what is clicking. It's clicking because it's trying to make a connection between the two wires that are connected to it. It will click even when it is working. By jump the solenoid I mean take a piece of metal and touch it to both posts of the solenoid. You can also just disconnect one side and touch it to the other.

can someone tell me a better description of these parts are? pictures maybe to make it even better? I'm new to this so i'm not too familiar with it. if i'm looking at the motor from the tray, where exactly are all these parts.?

pull your spark plugs and see if the motor will turn over.. sometimes with low comp. the starter will turn over and also tap the starter while you hit the start button.. i bet your starter need a good clean (happens all the time to mine) you could also use a test light to make sure power is getting to your srater..
I have a 650 sx , so not sure how different, but mine does this intermittently. The box in question if ure looking at the motor from the tray, will on the right hand side behind the dash panel. Hit the stater and listen in this area and u'll understand which box is making the sound.

yes, battery connections seem to be really good. Also the battery has really good voltage.

i tapped the starter and it started! thanks guys for helping! what should i do to keep it from doing that? and whats the best oil to use for this motor?
