Super Jet need help, solenoid rapidly clicking, nothing else...

I wiped huge on a failed roll attempt earlier today. Once I got my bearings, the ski would no longer start.

pressing the start button gives a rapid, drum like clicking from the solenoid

engine is not seized, turns by hand. Plugs in or out makes no difference.

Replaced solenoid, same thing. Battery shows 12.6V, bilge pump runs at normal speed (by ear anyways).

jumping the solenoid does nothing, just gives a small spark

Any thoughts? I really need to get this thing running so I can flush the salt out of it.

Try hooking up a negative jumper cable from the negative battery to the engine block... You can always jump the solenoid to get it started by putting a screwdriver acoss both posts...

I tried jumping the solenoid, no luck... just a small spark

what would the negative jumper do? My battery is grounded directly to the engine case as it is

If you jump it with the screw driver and doesn't turn over then its the starter. But make sure you are holding the screw driver on there long enough because you can just tap it quick and it will spark but not turn over. So hold it there and let it spark a few times if it doesn't turn over then should be a bad starter.

thanks for the input
I thought it was the starter too...

turns out it was my ground cable. I realized this after pulling my gas tank, pipe, ebox and starter. fun.

Had I hooked up the second ground as you suggested, I would have saved a lot of headache...

im having a similar issue with my SJ and it has happened before but ive fixed it. but now it is happening again and im stumped also. my relay clicks when i try and start the ski. if i jump it with a screwdriver it cranks over like normal. i tried installing another ground cable from the battery to a headbolt and still i get the clicking noise. the relay has no corrosion (bought new last year) and i just got a brand new deka gel battery. what could be wrong?

Yep thats the problem. Some times they last forever some times two rides. Same with aftermarket starters. Be better to find a used oem then new aftermarket.

I am not saying that is for sure your problem. But just saying if you had to put two new ones in already and they were aftermarket. You problem was buying aftermarket things like that.

Yeah if jumping the relay/solenoid makes it start and the ground is good, I would suspect the relay. Get an OEM one and see if it helps.
