My Dad just turned 67 and went riding with us this Sunday for his B'day  but unfortunately the oil line popped off the pump & he seized his '98 XL1200.:frown:

So, time for him to buy a new 3 seater w/extended warranty.:sneaky: He loved the XL1200 and it was very reliable until now. He rides in the surf & needs something that's relatively light for a 3 seater, and very reliable (Yamaha or Kawi, no Doos). I don't keep up w/the 3 seater market, so what would ya'll suggest? I'd prefer a 2 stroke, but they seemed to have dissapeared from the showrooms.:banghead:

A leftover 2006 would be great, but if there's something better in an '07 we'll go that route. TIA.

He's a big guy and needs good stability for reboarding in the surf. Aren't the Kawis smaller than an XL1200?

BTW, it does need good low RPM power, as he doesn't approach waves very fast.

My STX-R was great in chop, seemed light compared to a lot of the 3-seaters out there. You can't get a new one, but it sounds like your dad might be better off buying a used 2-stroker anyway. If I ever buy another couch (can't think of a good reason why just yet) I'd buy used - just because so many people are always tryign to sell used ones and you can get them so cheap. Especially this time of year.

after working for a watercraft rental company in hawaii for the summer im confident saying there is no more reliable ski than the Honda F12 non-turbo. after 2 years and 900 hours of use, hundreds of people rolling it over upside down, constant exposure to salt water with no flushing at all... the Honda still was rock solid, rugged pump bearings (MUCH better than the yamaha VX110 bearings) and excellent throttle response... the only downside is that it is a heavy ski, however i was able to get it out of the water in the rollers off of maui, so im sure it would do fine in the surf..... also honda's turf is terrible, need to hydroturf them ASAP

Agreed-Your old stxr is great in chop. You just pin it and hang the hell on!
Joe, has about 65 hours on that ski now.....And the season isn't over yet!

The stxr is an amazing ski off the line right up to about 62 and handles awesome!
