Someones gonna start it-so someone is me!

Is a BR a BR if u are half way off the ski after u land it? Is a BF a BF if you are flailing to get back on the ski to ride out of it? Is a BF to Flare a combo if the flare sucks azz? Granted, if Malone wanted to really kill them, he could have and proved that Sat evening. Bogart and Stoyer spent all weekend trying to get 2 back to back flips and had a hard time getting the 2nd flip clean, so Malone sees whats goin on and goes over in frt of Bogart and Stoyers pits and does several 3 in a row BFs real clean and one 4 in a row and 1 5 in a row.

Amateur Freestyle judging on Saturday was REAL close to spot on! I was VERY impressed!

Pro Freestyle juding today was yet again a popularity vote IMO.( Yes my opninion and mine only).

If I were the one and only judge it would have gone a lil like this-

There would have been a decibal meter in the crowd and Parr would have killed it!!!

If the decibal meter was not available and big air would have been the ticket for the day, it would go like this-

Kaiser went big and threw a trick that I have not seen on a ski yet (probaly old trick but new to me) Body Varial (MX trick) towards the end plus did the BF's and BR's and all the usual stuff and was pretty clean.

Eric went huge as expected but really no bigger than Bogart or Kemnitz or Stoyer(who lost his ski towards the end-bad Stoyer) or Kaiser. Parr perfectly executed and FINISHED every trick and threw ALOT more combos than anyone else even tho all old skool other than a flare and BR.

Sickest trick was Bogart throwin a Backy, drove the nose straight in and threw a 100' fountain straight up, hit bottom real hard and rode out clean!
Go Bogart! The X Scream 1000 will throw one hell of a fountain!!! I was impressed that his old over the hill azz is still bringin it on. LOL

I personally know most of the judges and respect them more than anyone will ever know-BUT-I think they were handed scoring sheets that were ALREADY filled out . I am going to email Pat and request a decible meter for judging from now on. Like that will ever happen. lol I think this is the ONLY fair way to do it-let the crowd decide! After all-is not the crowd we are trying to impress? Isn't freestyle all about showin off? Who gives a chit what the judges think-there is only 5 of them and 500 people in the crowd. lol 500 people yelling for me would motivate me a hell of alot more than 5 people.

rant over

are there any published judging guidelines?

for example, x amount of points for a roll or flip...a percentage of points for difficulty, anything?

soooo ... what were the places that the judges "handed" out?

I cant find anywhere who got 1st...2nd...3rd....

Malone
Bogart
Kemnitz Sr
Stoyer
Kaiser
Parr

Again, the only thing Stoyer did wrong was lose his ski at the end
Bogart should get best trick for his backflip gone short leading too 100' KILLER fountain bouncing off bottom of the lake and ridin that chit out.

IF big air is the high score-it would have been impossible to judge top 5

IF perfect execution of EVERY trick is the high score-then Parr should have won.

My 2 cents!

BTW-I feel like Malone did 'just enuf' to win which was the big dis-appointment for me. I watched them all practice and Malone was going off the hook which is what I wanted to see in comp today.

The cool part of today was-what gets the biggest air-
WDK 1200
EME 1105
Team Scream 1000
???????????????????????????????????????????????????
You CAN'T judge the big power, it's that close!

There is a brief outline in the APBA rulebook.

Bottom line is I need to change what I want out of freestyle comp to want to keep competing. If I want to continue for the trophy then I need to quit now. If I want to hang with friends and give the crowd a show then I should continue.

Oh well, maybe Malone is holding something back for WF. I wouldn't want to show my best moves if I didn't have to before the big show.

If you want to give a crowd a show and hang with friends, then doing shows with Typhoon Tommy is the way to go BY FAR.

!

Malone is making more power......he just was not on the gas. He was just taking it easy and putting on a show. He was doing 5 backflips back to back over in the cove. And going bigger on pretty much everything. As far as power I would say EME, Team Scream, Waterdawg 1200. If they made a light crank for the 1200 it might make more power that both the eme and xscream 1000

And big freerides. I really miss the GA ride every year. I know we have Daytona, but I learned this spring that I AM the biggest vajayjay on the planet and that riding in the Atlantic ain't nothing like riding in the Gulf.
I figure what the hell, at least I am man enuf to admit it. lol

Exactly!! Malone never brings is A game till WF. I had the pleasure to work with him for two weeks (a couple years ago) and see what makes a true champion a champion.

Malone is going to win again this year...I would bet anyone on that!

I thought Stoyer was at his best ever this year.

I had Parr winning it, with Stoyer a close second.

Loved this event, have to agree though my favorite "entertainer" is Parr, hands down. I was cheesing through his entire run. To me, it should be all about entertaining the crowd, thats why they are there. It is entertaining to see the big air, but thats more of just an advertisement for the sponsor's hulls and engines IMHO. Like Gil said, if you were going for big air, etc, it was damn near too close to call. All these machines were AMAZINGLY powerful.

If the judging were by crowd reaction there would be a HUGE posse of friends for each rider. It would be a contest of who can cheer the loudest.

I would like the judges to base their scores on difficulty level and completing each trick. That's probably how it works, so I'm fine with this years outcome.

we did the gladiator challenge tournament at the start of august here in the uk and all of it was voted by the crowd showing a colored sheet pink or yellow it was a very good concept with a few surprises but everyone out of the 18 riders enjoyed their self and the crowd loved being involved

I thought the competition was at it's best this year. At least for the last 7 years for I wasn't competing before then...

I enjoyed watching all the pro guys ride, but I'd like to add my .02 cents on 2 riders in particular. Stoyer and Parr...

If Stoyer had not lost his boat at the end and was able to have his last Trick count, I think he would have placed better...
It was good to see him ride a ski with comparable power of some of the other guys with big motors... It was nothing short of what I expected. BIG air and good variation of tricks.

I loved Parrs run... He had the most tricks and variation but didn't have the equipment to pull off the backies and larger air that it would take to place at the top... He's one I'd like to see compete on a AM hull with big power... for those that don't know, he was the only one competing pro with an oem hull.

Congrats to everyone that came out to compete in am and pro freestyle...

Judging is never going to be perfect... it is what it is...
If your one to get all bent out of shape over it, you don't need to be doin it.

I know I wouldn't want to be the one judging...

oem hull and 701 engine

BTW-I feel like u had the BEST run ever since I have been watching/competing with u! You kill me with your 60seconds of NON stop trick transitions-u make it look real easy and after today, I know for a fact it is NOT! I too think Stoyer had his A game on as well as Sweeny!!!

I also loved seeing the CA crew there-Kaiser always impresses the hell out of me and this year we had the Kemnitz crew which was Awesome!
