It's not the kind of wake you're thinking of. It's a paddlewheeler, the wake is directly behind it and consists of wave after wave and they can get very steep. We have the Belle of Louisville here, same thing. Tug boats do the same also, though not as clean because they are created by a screw which has rotation to it.

Its just a little dingy cant put off to big off a wake:biggrin: Really though how big is the wake??? It looks like a flat bottom with a shallow draft like a house boat which normally dosnt put off great wakes but at 300 feet long Im sure it still displaces alot of water. We need to make a trip up there Mark The nashville peeps say its the shiznit http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylordopryland/gjack/index.cfm

Never jumped paddle wheeler wakes but I found tugs to put off a more conventional wake at speed. I love jumping tug wakes coming out of the Hillsborough river in Tampa when I visit my dad. Ive hit some that were straight up. So its the paddle that puts off the wake not so much the boat?

Not the boat at all, the 'wake' is actually pressure surges behind the boat. The tug boats I'm talking about are for river barges, they are barge pushers, not the kind for helping to guide boats in/out of harbor.

Yeah, I was going to say that tugboats come in all shapes and sizes in my reply I looked into buying one for kicks but they were way more than I thought they would be even for a junky one. Then theres the where would I keep it issue. It would be the ultimate jetski accessory though:biggrin: I'm going to have to round up the posse and get up there. I'm half tempted to come this weekend but I did that last weekend and thats why my ear is in the shape its in now:banghead:

Yep, the waves are in a sawtooth pattern that varies in period depending on the current and speed of the boat. Sometimes it is more fun 200 ft behind the boat where the waves are best. We usually find the 4th or 5th wake is good for pulling stabs and no handers. Waiting for someone to pull the ever elusive barrel roll off these wakes. Maybe this weekend?? Anyone??

Me!! If I make it that is. We still have a bunch of stuff to get done before closing, but I'm planning on being there. I definitely intend to try to pull some rolls, but I'm not sure how well that will go off the GJ wake since they can get pretty steep....

Well steep just means backflip. Right?

Yup - I might try one of those too if I feel the urge. I've done half a backflip completely by mistake off a barge wake - I figure I can get at least 3/4 of the way round if I do it on purpose :Banane01: The waves are so close together that you can't help come out of it with a ton of rotation unless you cut across at an angle.

rolls are a little tricky off this type of wake for me. what I do is come in fairly parallel to the wave from the side turn into the trough and roll. I end up jumping way to the side, but it makes the ramp not as steep, plus then landing is *not on the next wave*.

Yes - I tried the same thing off barge wakes, but it isn't exactly ideal. You really can't come in with much speed either since your pre-jump gets messed up by the preceding wave. The things we have to deal with.... :banghead: :cool2:

Well dammit, this thread is killin' me! I would love to get back to Tenn. and try my skillz on the Jackson. When I was living there we only went a couple of times and it wasn't that great (wrong time of day, river was running slow, etc). Now all I hear about is how frikken great it is. WTF... dammit!...

I guess everything is relative!!! I live an hour from lanier where large wakes are common and plentifull. I mainly want to go for a change in scenery and meet new folks. Also I think Tenn. is one of the most beutifull states in the country.
