n00b looking for advice on a first ski

Hey everyone! I am moving to the Tampa Bay area from boring crappy Iowa, so I figure it's time to get into jet skiing. I have literally zero experience on them, so I was curious where I should start. I kind of want a couch, but I hear those get boring quickly...is that true for most of you that have had them? As far as stand ups...any recommendations? I've heard SJ's are good, but I will gladly admit my ignorance here and say I have no idea.

Thanks in advance for all of your imput!

You' only be able to ride Rich's for ten minutes tops so rule that out. :Banane26:

If you've got real money, get a 2008-2009 SuperJet
If you've got good money, get a modded 1996-2007 SuperJet
If you've got respectable money, get a stock 1996-2007 SuperJet
If you've got some money, get a 1994-1995 SuperJet or any square with a 701
If you've got limited money, get a 1990-1993 SuperJet

SX-R's are great but they are a man's ski and ride a little bit nose down in the surf.

Don't get a HydroSpace if you're going anywhere near surf.

Yeah, honestly, from the get go I figured a SJ, but I wanted to see if there were any other decent alternatives.

I'll have to read that Wiki article tomorrow when I have more time. Thanks for all of the input!

you really need to ride them to decide and be comfortable doing so. if you have not riden before it may be a little harder to make a wise choice, as yours skills increase it makes a big difference in how you may feel about either ski. if you find a killer deal on either one you can't go wrong. but I would rather know for sure and have a price set and know what to look for before setting out to buy.

I can tell you right now if you are new to riding standups the sxr is gonna be easier to ride. the sj is gonna be squirly(sp). but after some time the sj is gonna seem a little bit easier to manage and maybe more fun. the sxr is still a sexy beast and can do everything the sj can.

Im selling a 701 superjet for $2300 and I am moving too Tampa at the end of september also. I am in WI. Only reason I am selling is because I found a second Yamaha FX-1. I am a FX-1 guy for life!!

Yeah, that is a very good point. If the sxr is more stable I may go that route, or at least really consider it. I'm 6' even and about 200 I think.

Waveblasting my life away
If you have never ridden jetskis really, i would highly recommend getting a waveblaster. ITs easier than a stand up, but still takes skill to ride. it was one of the best skis in the surf and even on flat water its a blast becasue of the way it handles. Its like a dirtbike

Interesting. I'll consider that as well. Thanks!
