Mysterious spark issue!

If you have a good tester you can check the resistance in the coil wires you are using now to see if the numbers match up. The numbers are in the Kawi SXR manual.

just unplug the temp sensor plug that goes to the pipe. You do this when you remove the stock pipe and install an AM Pipe.

My stock plug wires and coil fixed the problem. I don't know if the non resistor boots made a difference, but the coil did. John at JSS assures me that the resistor boot are not necessary with his wires.

I have known of several people who's coils were DOA when they recieved them.

Try his coil with your plug boots. I would contact him before you remove his, he may say you voided his warranty.

The coil was a borrowed spare. The actual coil is a stock kawi coil with new plug wires. I still need to either get a new stock coil or send mine to JSS for new wires.

I have access to another spare JSS coil that I will try before I send my coil in.

Is there any upgrade available using resistor plug boots?

JSS insisted again, that the non resistor plug boots will work fine.

All I know now is that my stock coil works... but with 6" wire leads (plug wires were cut).

I tried another good coil with JSS wires and msd boots. This did not work. My stock coil and wires worked like a champ.

Any other ideas for plug wire and boots other than a stock setup?

Just get another oem. You should get around atleast 3 seaons out of 1.

You can't go wrong with the OEM coil. They usually last at least a couple riding seasons. The only aftermarket part i purchase and use is my Advent T3 CDI. Other than this i ordered every other electrical component as OEM. Everything seems to run tip top.

Coils typically do not go bad and if they do they fire or they don't. wires on the other hand need to be replaced from time to time. I have run my MSD coil for about 7 years with 2 sets of wires. John's wires are very good, it took me quite some time searching on the internet to find the multi strand wire that he uses. IMO

Is it multistrand or solid core I don't like solid core on a ski it breaks down fast from vibration but multistrand lasts a very long time. Taylor makes a very nice multistrand.... I hate to give up all my insider information.

yup, it is the same stuff JSS uses. Believe he contacted Belden and got them to imprint JSS on the wires. Or he found a different supplier, but it is the same stuff. he started out using "Belden" wire. I have a coil that I redid in 2002 that still works with the NAPA wire.

Good to know, I was getting my wire from a speed shop.
