My wife says I'm cheap

Well, I didn't want to spend 30 frickin dollars for the foot strap hardware kit from blowsion, so I fashioned my own. granted, I still havent ordered the foot straps yet, but at least I'm prepared. I have a total of $9 in hardware. I picked up the SS bolts, washers & lock washers from Home Depot. My father and I have an aluminum construction business, and I remembered these great little brass sinkers we used for wood frame homes when attaching removable hurricane storm panels. Let me know what you guys think, if these brass sinkers will be strong enough to bite into the 'glass. They are 1/4-20 inside thread, and I have more if anyone local needs them. when installing them into wood, you are supposed to drill a 3/8" hole and thread them in.

I used the yamaslut corn nut/washer way for my straps, this way allows you NOT to drill through the hull. If the above process doesn't pierce through exposing the inner hull if the nut were to pop out during a fall, I would be comfortable with it. I'd use epoxy too, I find the more the better/stronger.

I tried using some inserts like those once but they were smaller. I just used a screw driver to install them. The ears on the insert broke off trying to thread them in.

If you do use them, use a bolt and a nut tightened against the insert. Also do not removed the bolt if you use any epoxy. The eposy will epoxy will ooze up inside the inserts and plug them up.

McMaster Carr sells some really nice stainless steel threaded inserts.
