Well I pulled the engine last night, found lots of oil in the bottom of the ski. Not sure from where cuz the oil tank was still connected. Anyways, Here is as far as I got, I will tear it down more tonight or sunday. The head is ok, just discolored and the walls up top are scored a bit-(not much) and there is rust on them. Keep in mind, I have never touched a engine as far as this so any help would be great!!

I have read that I should remove the oil injection although I like the thought of not having to mix gas and oil, remove some water dump valve ( not sure what they are talking about) and I was wanting to get a aftermarket pipe.

I want to get the engine and inside done and then I can paint the outside when it gets cooler. Is it ok to flip the hull with the engine inside as long as I remove the battery and drain the gas???

if you flip the ski with motor in it, it may break motor mounts after a while
you can block up and support the motor and prevent this, but it is better to
pull the motor, quick job and safer for all parts involved
go premix for peace of mine.
check to see if crankcase drain is in place, if so block it off
coffman pipes come around at reasonable pirces; I love mine
OEM exhaust sux!
here is my 750sx build, FYI

nice build.....when you went with a big pin engine from the small pin, did you have to change anyhting to fit or does all the parts match right up??

Im thinking about just finding a whole new engine.....what did you pay for the one you got?

my replacement motor was also a small pin, but I believe the swap is painless
bought my motor off the boards, but got a lot more than just the motor
(ie pipe, starter, bendix, carb, oem f/k, bedplates, etc)
you usually see used 750 stripped shortblocks around $300 - $400

guess I better keep my eyes open. I got all the parts, so just a stripped shortblock is all I need.

And a better pipe too. DOes that pipe you have do away with the waterbox??

no, my coffman pipe does not eliminate the water box
not much louder than stock
but it has a much better powerband :Banane35:

ya thats what I thought but I think the guy I got it from pulled the head and the water that dropped in he left and bolted it back up and it jsut sat or so im guessing. Ill tear the rest of it down sunday I hope.

I was removing the carb today and found the problem, the oil line going into the carb had a crack in it and caused the motor to go. Also the cause of the oil in the hull.

Well I tore into it today to find one whole cylinder sleeve broke in half with matal peices everywhere. Being this is the first engine that I have taken a part im not sure whatere to go next. At this point should I look for a new or used one? It doesnt look that bad but I am worried about the crank with all the metal pieces everywhere.

The cylinder sleeve also has a chunk taken out of it, so I guess I need to resleeve it as well??

The last couple of motors that l have seen come out of the shop you mentioned was junk.Example:99 Ultra 150 2 hours on new engine.Dowel pins in crank, one pin was sheared in half, the other gone. Now was this just a one time problem or has anyone else seen problems come out of them?

yes, I would never give sbt 2 pennies to rub together. They produce crap. Im looking for a used motor or one to rebuild correctly.

sbt is the only source of rebuilt small pin cranks out there
so if you go the rebuild route
trash the small pin cases and find a set of big pin ones
hot rods can furnish big pin cranks
those cylinders dont look like much either :twak:
