i wouldnt powder coat the frame, actualy let me take that back, i would. BUT i would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVERRRRRRR BUY a bike with a powdercoated frame unless u knew them..... why? somebody had to strip EVERYTHING of a frame. yep.....SOMEBODY. how do i, the buyer, know you knew what you were doing??? just run on good faith that everything got put back right??? no way......

ok maybe its a little less crucial on a 250.
a 450 would make me a little nervous........
blows me away though when guys on street bikes bought them used with a powdercoated frame and bought it from jo shmo.......NUTS!

nice whip! one industries makes some sick graphics kits for cr's with black plastics. check the bearings in the stem for the triple clamp in the frame, and the swingarm and linkage bearings; they are the most neglected things on any bike everybody forgets about them and can cause you trouble in the longrun.

luck ur out in cali i would love to do some riden out in cali. it looks sick out there

good year. the new dirt rider mag has a little write up on the 00-01 cr250s. they said they were great bikes and more sought after than the newer ones because they dont have the electronically controlled power valves and have a green sticker....

just took out my new to me 03 yz250 out to jawbone this weekend and rode up to the piutes. we went from desert to pines in one (long) ride. love these old two strokes!

My buddy rode Jawbone last weekend and said it was awsome. I'll give you a call next time I'm heading that way.

Thanks ANT. I took the bike apart before I rode it. Went through all the rear linkage, wheel berrings, and stem. Good think too, wasn't much grease in there.

Being this frame is aluminum, what do you guys think about having it anodized as opposed to powder coat?
It would look good anodized red with black plastics.

98-01 were the thickest scissor frames ever built on a dirt bike. Theirs a stress point on the new frames and I have heard of a few guys breaking them on the track (not even casing either). The only problem about the older CR's that I absolutely hate is the vibration. Newer CR's fixed this problem with wider footpegs and thicker rubber mounts between the peg mount and the frame.

And Eddie, only one way to find out if it looks good or not is by taking it apart and trying it out! I saw an RMZ 450 with red frame (powdercoated), really flashy and definitely a head turner. Let me know if you need an extra hand whenever.

the 00+ was the 2nd gen cr frame that allowed a little more flex and vibration absorbtion. i remember them being built that thick to allow them to be welded if they did break- they needed to be able to use non-heat treated aluminum to do so.

either way a great year for a cr

Don't anodize it. It'll look sweet at first but it will look like :):):):) quick cause it will get all dinged up and where your boots are will wear right through. You can't go wrong with the bare frame it is easy to take care of. Even colored rims from places like excel I don't like doing because the edge of the rim is made to flex so the color wears off around the edge and if you change tires yourself the edges will get scratched with tire irons.

This would look sick on your bike

Can purchase aluminum or carbon fiber frame braces, they cover up the entire area where the foot rubs against the frame (around the ball of the foot).

I have ran gold excels, and friend runs black on his yz, never had that problem. Do you have a picture?
